Early Voting in Alaska

I cast an early vote in Alaska, and I had to be careful with the senatorial vote. As many know, there are two Dan Sullivans on the ballot.

To make sure I didn't vote for the wrong one, I viewed a mock ballot before I went to the polling place. When I actually voted, I "measured twice, cut once."

I'm pretty certain there will be voters who vote for the Dan Sullivan they don't want to vote for.

While this isn't on the ballot (yet?), there is a movement to make it harder to get on the ballot for state and local elections.

Unlike many other states, to get on the ballot, all you have to do is go to an election clerk and sign up. Many want to require a minimum number of signatures on a petition to qualify.

At the moment, they want to give the legislature a chance to do this before going the referendum route.

Do you think this could cost the GOP the seat?

That possibility is why the Trump DOJ filed suit asking that ballots cast for the "other Dan Sullivan" be sequestered so that certification might be held up if the results show the Democrat won by a margin less than number of votes cast for the "other Dan Sullivan." DNC etc have moved to intervene. Stay tuned.

I’m not convinced that there’s a law that supports that move, but what the Democrats have done is certainly a disgrace.

Well, the fact that the case was abruptly transferred from its originally assigned judge nominated by Trump to one nominated by Obama makes that the court's position a near certainty. Cynical? Yup.

I read an article that said you only need 25 signatures from registered voters to get on the ballot for governor of Tennessee. Half of the independents on the ballot aren't campaigning at all. Not even a website. It must be something some people do as a lark, just so they can say that they once ran for governor.
