Israeli officials are saying that a terrorist killed in a mortar attack in Gaza has a "high likelihood" of being Yahya Sinwar.
The terrorist has been taken to an Israeli hospital for DNA matching to determine his identity.
At 10 AM ET, the Telegraph, via Israel's Channel 12, reported that an official has confirmed that Sinwar is dead. I don't think there has been a public statement to this point.
UPDATE: Hamas is saying that Sinwar is not dead, and that this is an IDF intelligence-gathering plot.
UPDATE: Israel has confirmed that Sinwar is dead.
Israel Katz, Israel’s foreign minister, announced the killing on Thursday afternoon in a statement to the media. “The mass murderer Yahya Sinwar, responsible for the massacre and atrocities of October 7th, was eliminated today by IDF soldiers,” he said. “This is a great military and moral achievement for Israel and a victory for the entire free world against the evil axis of extreme Islam led by Iran,” he added.
The soldiers who killed Sinwar were not hunting him and came upon him in a chance encounter, Israeli media reported.
Praise be.

He isn't dead until the New York Times eulogizes him as the leader of the "peaceful, popular resistance."

Multiple views on X of what appears to be him. Looks like it hurt, but not for long.

The bit that he was apparently caught by a fluke tank attack is great!

The Telegraph posted a photo that was just a head shot (as it were). I'm not a student of cephalometry, but the left ear on the corpse looks remarkably similar to the left ear in the live photo.
