Will it Take Another 9/11?

As we watch the fires of anti-Semitism flare up across the country, and college students think they are being heroic for defending Hamas and Hezbollah, we have to wonder if it’s even possible to turn this country around to the virtue and values it has been known for. When violence, Nazi-like behavior, and protests attacking Jews in this country and worldwide are increasingly celebrated, who will put the brakes on and stop this nihilistic behavior? The academies have built fortresses of Marxism and anti-Americanism, and their militaristic resistance to resurrecting the values of the Founders continues to flourish.

Where do we go from here?

I fear something drastic must happen in this country. Something catastrophic. Something that will stun people, shock them out of their lethargy or their violent and genocidal dreams. They must feel the event in their hearts and souls.

Will it take another 9/11?

Douglas Murray, noted British author and conservative political commentator, cultural critic, and journalist, made this comment to Bari Weiss of the Free Press: “It will take a mass casualty terror attack”:

How can I suggest something so deadly and horrific?

The people in our country have been lulled into complacency. They have learned that even the poorest people can have cell phones and television sets. And those who are not lethargic consider themselves to be revolutionaries. Their sense of entitlement to receive anything their heart desires has led to a type of arrogance and hostility toward other people who they’ve been told are evil and dangerous. And those people, such as the Israelis and the Jews, must be destroyed. These angry people are at the root of the resistance within this country, becoming a safe harbor for Marxists, socialists and anarchists.

People will not be convinced by reason that their mindset and ideas are flawed. They have been propagandized for too long. They’ve come to believe the opposite premises of the foundations of this country: that the country’s Founders were not noble, but racist slaveholders. That Marxism has failed in the past but it will just need the right handlers to make it successful. That free speech means safe speech and must meet the standards of the Left. No, reason will not be successful, but terrorists demonstrating what true viciousness and centuries of hatred can produce from one or many destructive events will get their attention.

Will it take another 9/11?

Maybe the purveyors of 9/11-type evil will demonstrate that this culture of revolutionaries and their support of these evil forces can be wiped away by people who hate life more than they do. The revolutionaries will learn that their highest ideals will not protect them when they are struck down, or their buildings are stormed or their homes are destroyed.

What am I actually suggesting? The walls of righteous protests must be knocked down. Do I want people to die? Do I want there to be destruction?

I do not. Not at all.

The kind of second 9/11 I’m imagining would be conducted by one of our enemies: a terrorist that has crossed our southern or northern border; a group organized by Hamas or Hezbollah to do their dirty work. Or a group of American anarchists who simply want to wreak havoc.

But it may require something earthshaking to occur that will rattle people out of their confused and diabolical thinking. It seems it would have to be quite serious if it were to help them realize that they’ve been living out a misguided dream, that there must be another, better way to move forward. And those of us who honor and celebrate this great country will be there to show them the way.

If it’s not too late.

I guess I'm proposing a paradox: that the likes of a 9/11-type event would be needed to shock this country into stopping the destruction of our country. And the last thing I want is to see that kind of destruction.

The people celebrating Hamas would cheer another 9/11. It only took two weeks after 9/11 for them to insist that we should not respond to 9/11.

These are not the same people, 25 years later. Let's see how they react if they are directly impacted.

Twenty five years ago, 90% of the Hamas' supporters were in short pants, if they had been born at all.
