Netanyahu’s Dutiful UN Folly

Another year, another Netanyahu speech at the UN. Another clear explanation for why Israel has the right to exist, another mass walk-out by half the auditorium. Another clear denial of the depraved charges of genocide against Israel, another mob of protestors outside stupidly ranting about genocide. Another plea for humanity and sanity, another exercise in futility.

Well, you can’t fault a guy for trying. Every year he dutifully goes through the motions knowing full well there’s an impervious wall of stupidity and evil that can’t be torn down by articulate words. On the other hand, Iran’s nuclear program is buried under rubble, the former ayatollah and much of Iran’s leadership are dead, Hamas and Hezbollah have been decimated, and most of the Middle East is quietly thankful for all of that. Not bad!

And then there are the small delights. Like, for instance, the arrest of the washed-up, left-wing actress Susan Sarandon, as she stupidly participated in the mob that blocked a street outside the UN building. If only that poor woman, along with all the other antisemitic protest zombies, had something worthwhile to live for.

All of this raises a very serious question for the West, much of which hates Netanyahu, questions Israel’s right to exist, and welcomes the Islamic hordes with open arms. And that question is: What on earth is wrong with you and when are you going to wake up? How can the greatest civilization in the history of mankind degenerate into something this stupid?

But I digress. Back to the speech.

I loved Bibi’s opening lines:

“Mr. President, before I begin, just a quick announcement. If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now. Thank you very much.”

Perfect! And he was just getting started.

Netanyahu spoke of many things: The war against the Iranian regime to stop its nuclear program and its incessant terrorism; the ‘67 war; the false charges of colonialism against Israel; his brother Yoni, who died during the raid on Entebbe, Uganda, to free Israeli hostages; the incomprehensibly savage attack against Israeli citizens on October 7th; Zohran Mamdani, the punk Islamic mayor of New York who thinks Netanyahu is a war criminal; and plenty more.

He also brought up Turkey’s illegal occupation of Northern Cyprus since 1974. No country on earth, other than the occupier Turkey, recognizes the legitimacy of Northern Cyprus. Yet, where are the outcries? Where are the protests? Where are the chants of “From Nicosia to Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus will be free!”? Where is the worldwide obsession? Apparently, the world can only have one such obsession at a time, and that’s the one with the intolerably abiding Jewish state.

He also addressed the false charge of genocide against Israel in Gaza, calling it the “greatest lie of the century.” No people have ever been given more notice ahead of impending military operations than the Gazans. No people have ever received more humanitarian aid from their so-called enemies than the Gazans. As urban warfare expert Colonel John Spencer of West Point has said, “Israel has done more to prevent civilian casualties in war than any other military in history.”

My favorite moment may have been when Netanyahu reached into his pocket, pulled out a small object and held it up.“Remember the beepers?” he asked. “Well, I can tell you this: Hezbollah certainly remembers them.”

Article Header Image

Yeah, those must have been more annoying than a hand buzzer or a whoopee cushion! You know what else Hezbollah remembers? They remember how Hassan Nasrallah, their former head honcho, was taken out by an air strike that was ordered by Bibi from his New York City hotel room right before addressing the UN in 2024. How sweet was that? I don’t know how he kept from spilling the beans to his audience at the time.

So, his speech was, as usual, articulate, forceful, truthful and appropriately condemnatory of obvious evil. But as usual, it was all for naught. There were likely no minds changed, no one newly convinced of Israel’s right to exist and defend itself, no rhetorically inspired breakthroughs.

But the morally confused world be damned—though I don’t know how a confused Western civilization survives in any recognizable form. Even as Israel fights radical Islam to survive, much of the West rolls out the red carpet for what amounts to an Islamic demographic time bomb, all in the name of tolerance and diversity. And when that bomb finally goes off, that will be the very predictable end of tolerance. If it weren’t so inconceivably foolish, it would be hilarious.

Future historians will certainly have plenty of reasons to laugh—if Islam even allows a sense of humor, that is. In the meantime, I look forward to Bibi’s next barn-burner of a speech at the UN (Useless Nonentity). Tell us the one about the beepers again!

Greg - well said. I didn't know Susan Sarandon was even there, let alone arrested. I remember Arafat and all the presidents who tried to make a peace deal with him. He turned down all of it. We poured money for decades into that region. A two state solution would have happened by now, but that was never the goal. Israel was attacked on all sides in 1948, and 1967. They're the size of Rhode Island. Hardly a fair fight.

Gaza has been run by Gazans. They allowed Hamas to dig themselves in there. Why has no country surrounding Israel ever offered a Palestinian state? Why wouldn't Arafat, and his successors ever accept 98% of the pie offers? What did that region look like before the Jews returned? It was a wasteland.

I don't think the original deal, after WWII called The Balfour Agreement, set up by England was a plan to work. I think they wanted the Jews out of Europe - the ones that remained. Here you go - have yourself a secular state, and plan on being attacked. No you cannot worship freely here or there. That's like telling the Pilgrims once you get to America, no practice of faith. There are restrictions. But as you say, Netanyahu keeps trying and it falls on deaf ears.

John Bolton opined once, when he was a more observant loyal conservative, of the UN that "if the top ten floors of the U.N. Secretariat building were to disappear, it wouldn't make a bit of difference". I suggest he is not looking forward or bold enough.

I believe it is time for the UN be relocated to a more congenial spot such as Brussels in Belgium where it would be comfortably nestled with the rest of the other irrelevant global blow hards. NYC could use the land for a more profitable development. I know soon to retire president that will need a retirement activity, he certainly knows NYC's real estate's potential.

I understand that Belgium has some of the world's finest chocolates they can consume, and as a bonus to the proclivities of the UN's membership, sex work is a legal profession (over 300K in Brussels alone) which should keep them busy between hot air sessions.
