Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
What on Earth is going on? Keywords tunnel, synagogue, Brooklyn, you know the thing. Five young men are called "extremists" in the same parlance used to describe suicide bombers and so forth. They excavated (or something) a route to the "sanctuary of the Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters", so that they would "have access after hours."
This might as well be in a foreign language. I once had a boss who used to castigate us in our wet-behind-the-ears ignorance "It's like I'm speaking Hebrew here!" I gently let float the rumor that I might be Jewish, heh, and never addressed it. I used to be good great at this sort of warfare. Nothing to make a man address his casual references like coming face-to-face.
Which reminds me that as a teen-ager, I used to call things bad or unsatisfactory by saying, "Oh, that's Jewish," until one of my favorite teachers brought me up short by (at long last) shouting "I'm Jewish!" in response. Guess who suddenly felt about this [=] tall. I've tried to track her down in recent decades, no dice. Nothing to make a man address his casual references like coming face-to-face.
Years later, and somewhat after the castigating boss thing, I did the Tokyo commute daily and picked up a copy of Paul Johnson's A History of the Jews, reading that for a hundred kilometers a day on the trains. Some old Japanese guy buttonholed me as "Yudaya" and I did not deny it. Not that I was, of course. But hey, I wore a hat (Golden Bear, if you must know, wife got it for me and I loved it), with a beard, and I suppose I looked the part. And so I became something less than even culturally Jewish -- call me a political-only Zionist.
I don't know the password, and I don't get checks from the global Zionist movement, dagnabbit. Heaven knows I put in enough ZOG time at LGF to qualify.
I very much like the movies Pi and A Serious Man, each of which focus on a (Jewish) man's attempt to come closer to God. Acquired tastes, to be sure. So I find myself, the atheist gentile explaining cultural references from Judaism to Christian friends. Oy vey!
So five were arrested of the nine "extremist students" who dug a tunnel to God in Brooklyn. Nobody was killed. Film at Nineveh.

It's a very strange world we live in.
Small religious sects can do odd things. It looks like these were a small group of a small sect doing an odd thing.
Also, people have been digging religious holes for ages. Not that weird maybe?
