Do You Value Likes From Certain People More Than Others?

Well, I do!

Notes

Likes from whom, though?

Well, I think it would be in bad taste for me to say. What if you are one of them, but I forgot to mention you!

So I won’t ask you to identify your most prized Like-ers, either. (But you know we all want to know. So you can tell us who, if you want to.)

If your answer is “No, I really don’t give a flying fig about Likes,” then you are self-actualized, and we bow to you. (What? No, we didn’t murmur anything. Must’ve been the air conditioning.)

If your answer, like mine, is “Yes, of course I value all Likes on my posts, but especially those from X and Y and Z,” then you and I must admit that neither of us is amongst the elite, the self-actualized. But I went first in confessing, so feel free to join me in the ranks of the ordinary, the groveling, the masses yearning to be free.

If your answer is “No, I treasure all of your Likes equally,” then you are Susan, and no matter how hard we strive to be Susan someday, probably none of us has enough time left on this mortal coil.

I very much like likes. I also very much like surprises. I get a small but gratifying number of both!

There are some whose likes I treasure more than others. I once received a like from Bill Cosby, totally out of the blue but not on Ricochet. It came before all of the unfortunate stuff came out (Lord have mercy), and he was a favorite of mine since I was five, so that will stay with me. There are many here whose likes I appreciate, a very few whose likes make me reconsider what I said. So it goes.

I'm always surprised by which of my comments get a bunch of likes and which don't. Some that I think are real bangers will drift off with a half-dozen or less, and others that were just throwaways will get 20.

Likes are OK, but I'd prefer a perceptive response even if it's critical.

Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
