MISSING - NJ Republican Congressman Tom Kean Jr.
My Congresscritter - NJ Republican Congressman Tom Kean Jr. - is lost in the ether. He’s missed almost 50 votes, having last voted on March 5th. None of his fellow Congressmen nor the Republican leadership has heard a peep. He’s officially “radio silent.” His office said nothing until called out on the issue just recently. The current story is that he has unnamed “health issues.” Yeah, right. With razor-thin margins, the last thing we need is a Republican Congressman who is MIA. Get to work, Tom. And if you can’t (for whatever reason) have the courtesy to inform your employers - that’s US in case you’ve forgotten - what’s going on.

Slight health issue makes him disappear for a month-and-a-half? I've had more than slight health issues for decades, and I still work almost every day. Sounds like this:

When Georgia Rep David Scott passed away last week the inital reports were only that an “unnamed Congressman” had died. Apparently, lots of Congressmen initially assumed it must be Kean.

I think the HIPAA rules need to have exceptions, and one area is that of public servants. Missing 50 votes is the equilavent of having no representation, and his constituents should demand he resign and be replaced. I know that's harsh, but like it or not, Congress plays a vital role in our government's affairs, and we need everyone pulling their weight, especially if your party (Republican or Democrat) has a slim majority . . .

In New Jersey, the governor must temporarily appoint an interim senatorto fill a vacant Senate seat and order a special election to fill a vacant House seat.
State law authorizes the governor to call a special election for a Senate vacancy after the interim appointment has been made. The governor cannot appoint someone to fill a vacant House seat.
