A fleeting July outdoors in Northwest Montana with siblings . . .

Lake view from the top of an easy trail my siblings, niece and I conquered.

An unusual sight at the top: a place where owners could leave tags of dogs who loved this trail.

A long slog up this popular trail; in places it was concave and rocky, making me vulnerable with my weak knees and ankles. My hiking sticks saved the day. But these were the views going up.

We thought we'd finish the hike; at a wide resting point with a building and view of a giant basin with a lake below, we could see figures winding up a hog's back trail not far away. Alas, the end was much further than it looked. But we were rewarded with this new view, including woods below and a reservoir in the distance that's a local landmark. And mountain goats at the top that we wished were a bit more shy!

My niece had a fantastic July visit, with friends to play with next door, Doris the kitten to bring over to the house, and always lots to do, like this artwork on rocks. (My brother was upset about the mess on the concrete slab from the clay ashtray-like items she made.)

Trees at our lakeside picnic.

An earlier hike straight up a mountain. When you get to the top, you can relax, eat, drink, take in the 360-degree views, and then pay for a lift ticket down. No knee-jarring steep descent. I wasn't sure whether we'd make it up there by closing time, but it turned out to be just a two-hour ordeal.

And . . . we made it. There's the lift. A sight for sore eyes. The end is steep, but one is motivated. Oh, never mind. I think that lift is inactive during the summer. We weren't to our destination at the top yet—we're seeing just a random picture by my sister.

A video by my niece. If you listen, you can hear our decision point. We were maybe halfway there, and my sister was thinking of turning around.

My niece's capture of the lush scenery and clear water. It felt wonderful to soak one's hat in the cool stream before donning it again.

My sister photographed views from the lift, but deleted them, I believe. I have pictures from the lift from different years, and will share if I can find them. Up there, the wind is cold, our valley spreads beneath us in shades of green, and the ride lasts for more than ten minutes.

The videos were working before, just huge. Now they're a reasonable size, but won't play. :-(

I'll see whether I can fix them.

Update: Sort of fixed it. But they're huge again.

I also may have a couple of pictures from our short foray in Glacier National Park this year.

P.S.: I see an error in one of my captions where I say that "they" pay for the lift. I can't fix it due to fragile video status. I wish "they" paid for the lift! Due to inflation, it's now $22 one way. But it's still worth it.

Great hike-o-logue! A place I'd love to go.
