Lord of the Rings on the No-Fly List?

Tolkien made it no secret that he was a devout Catholic.

A devout lifelong Catholic, Tolkien once remarked that the Lord of the Rings is a “fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision.”

Tolkien was not the only author placed on the UK possible "far-right extremism" list. George Orwell's 1984, Huxley's Brave New World, Conrad's Heart of Darkness, Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes, John Locke’s Two Treatises of Government and Edmund Burke’s Reflections on the Revolution in France, as well as works by Thomas Carlyle and Adam Smith.

The US Department of the Treasury was not about to be upstaged by their British cousins.

Also on Thursday, CatholicVote reported that an agency of the U.S. federal government “‘flagged’ Bible purchases as an indication of ‘extremism’ in communications with banks following the events of January 6, 2021.” The Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) “warned financial institutions of ‘extremism’ indicators that include … ‘the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other media containing extremist views,” wrote House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-OH, in a letter last month.

You better leave your rosary, and your copy of the Lord of the Rings at home if you want to get through the TSA check point at the airport. Better yet you should purchase both with cash and not your credit or debit card, lest your bank reports the purchase to the Feds.
