Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Surely this obvious conflict has occurred to some academic, somewhere. If they don't allow anyone to say anything that is not perfectly in line with whatever the Democrat Party says is acceptable, that means that everyone will be saying the same thing. Thus, you can't get ahead by saying original things - you can only get ahead by saying the same thing as everyone else says, but more loudly.
When leftist academics require that everyone says the same thing, that means that they are not just tolerating plagiarism - they are requiring it. No wonder they seemed unconcerned with Claudine Gay's habit of repeated plagiarism. Of course she's saying the same thing as everybody else. If she wasn't, they wouldn't hire her.
American higher education is broken. The only way to fix it is to not just allow, but to encourage independent thought. Since leftists control our universities, that obviously can't happen. Independent thought is poison to the left, and it always has been. Leftists favor powerful centralized power structures, and they don't like their power being questioned. Independent thinkers tend to question authority, so they are the first ones that leftists send to the gulags. For the good of "the people," of course.
Since the left cannot allow independent thought, then our educational system cannot be fixed. It can only be dismantled. Or, we can just wait for it to self-destruct, like absolutely everything else the left touches. Our universities are already dead. We're just waiting for them to make it official. Which they appear to be starting now.
What a shame. What an absolute shame.

I've been trying for a week to say that.
Now that you have, I'll just repeat it and pretend I came up with it on my own.

I think it’s all related to the prevailing Marxism. Gay survived so long because her only sin was liberating (intellectual) property (plagiarism) in service of the oppressed

At least one originator of that intellectual property is herself a POC. She sounded a little salty about it.

Yes, and I’m pretty sure Dr Swain is not a Marxist.
