From Mike and the Mechanics, it's a little bit sappy but powerful, nonetheless.

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

and

So say it, say it, say it loud Oh, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Because it's too late oh, when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

The song was a chart hit around the world, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 in March 1989, the band's only number one and last top ten hit on that chart, and reaching number one in Australia, Canada and Ireland and number 2 in the UK.

When our son graduated from high school (a Catholic boys' school) in 2000, the school had an end-of-year barbeque for the grads and their dads that week. The principal played this one for the group.

I've always loved this song. It's not sappy to me (although I haven't watched the video.)

Great song. I got that album for a dollar a few years ago.

That cat singing had hits with Mike and the Mechanics, before that it was "Tempted" with Squeeze and before that "How Long" with Ace.

If your band needs a hit, maybe dial this guy up.
