Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
From the time that the Council on American-Islamic Relations was formed, it was clear that its purpose was insidious. It insisted that its goal was to protect Muslims from Islamaphobia, with statements like this one :
Islamophobia Watch: CAIR’s Islamophobia watch department is charged with monitoring and exposing the network of individuals and organizations in the United States that profits politically and financially by promoting anti-Muslim bias. The department implements projects and policies aimed at achieving CAIR’s vision regarding Islamophobia in America, which looks toward the time when being Muslim carries a positive connotation and Islam has an equal place among many faiths in America’s pluralistic society.
No one seems to know where all these organizations are that sanction violence and hatred against Muslims, but CAIR was certain they existed.
Except for the terrorist attacks of 9/11, incidents of Islamaphobia mainly exist in the minds of CAIR members. And their desire to be part of our pluralistic society, considering their anti-Semitic rhetoric and criticisms of Christians, defies their claim to be an agent of the good.
For years, CAIR’s supposed agenda has been lauded by many, especially in government. Their claims to “build bridges” don’t align with their actions. The most recent offense was made by Nihad Awad speaking on the October 7 massacare, who betrayed the truth about CAIR:
‘I was happy to see people breaking the siege and walking into their own land, crowed Nihad Awad, CAIR’s co-founder and national executive director, last month on a video circulated by the Middle East Media Research Institute this week. ‘The people of Gaza have the right to self-defense,’ he added and ‘Israel as an occupying force does not have that right.’
In addition, CAIR has direct links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood:
Within a month after its formation, CAIR, which was soon listed as a ‘working organization’ by the Palestine Committee, received a $5,000 check—followed weeks later by a $5,000 wire transfer—from the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). The HLF was convicted in 2008 of providing over $12 million to Hamas, a U.S. State Department-designated foreign terrorist organization. The FBI called this ‘the largest victory against terrorist financing in the U.S. since the 9/11 attacks.’ HLF's founders received life sentences, and CAIR was listed by the FBI as an unindicted co-conspirator, serving as the public relations arm of a web of terrorist-affiliated groups.
The evidence has been available for many years describing CAIR’s true goals, but there were many obstacles to calling them out. First, when they began to ramp up their efforts to fight Islamaphobia after 9/11, many people wanted to appear sympathetic to their cause. Although some Americans attacked people whom they thought were Arabs, as retribution for American lives lost, the numbers were relatively small (and they were clearly wrong). Another reason for not questioning CAIR’s veracity was that people were afraid that they would be labelled as Islamaphobes. The possibility of that branding caused them to be reluctant to speak out. Also, CAIR does an excellent job of portraying itself as the champion of victims, the catalyst for bringing all religions together, for educational opportunities to clarify their goals, and to assure the public that they are committed to protecting the Constitution and human rights. Why should we be suspicious of them?
But enough people continued to shine a light on radical Islam, including CAIR: Robert Spencer, Stephen Emerson, Alan Dershowitz , Caroline Glick, and organizations like the Gatestone Institute and MEMRI .
We’ve fallen down on the job, or at least the Biden administration has. Our borders have probably been invaded by countless terrorists, and we need to remain vigilant to the formation of cells of terrorists already here. At least the truth about CAIR is now fully public.
We must be vigilant.

I hope the FBI can spare some men to keep tabs on these guys but they must be stretched pretty thin, what with all the Christian terrorists running around.

At least I don't have to go to all the work of rethinking what I've known about CAIR, as seemed a possibility when I first read it as: "It’s About Time: CAIR Condemned an Anti-Semitic Group"
