I still support Ukraine and I love the idea of exsanguinating Putin's forces for pennies on the dollar. Yet Democrats are flooding Twitter right now complaining that "Trump's border policies" are about to cause the collapse of Ukraine, America, the whole international order, and a thousand years of peace. Examples:
and
My problem is that Democrats are openly stating that the only thing between them and everything they think is important is their insistence on leaving the border open. So screw it. Ukraine's importance to the national security of the United States, in any sense, pales in comparison to the importance of securing our own border. We are literally losing a war here at home, and issues like Ukraine are how it's done.
Thank you Speaker Johnson for making the Dems go on record with a claimed quid-pro-quo (not like they would honor it anyway!) on this treasonous position. Thank you Matt Gaetz for getting us to Speaker Johnson — there's no reward without risk. I do not care about Ukraine or Russia until our border is secure. And if that never happens, so be it.
I'm still happy to support Israel, and I am confident that this will be accomplished separately. Another round of IRS or similar reductions will go a long way toward getting even crunchy-cons back on that bus. Meanwhile, maybe Zelensky should reconsider whether or not he needs a ride. It's not Ukraine's fault — but that's just the way it is. I am all out of bucks to give.
Here's national security grifter Michael McFaul lecturing us not to look stupid, weak, or not-credible due to neglecting our urgent national security needs in the greater Elbonian basin:
Well imagine how stupid we look walking around with our BORDER UNZIPPED!
Belated postcript: I support and admire, and have hope for Ukraine, their people, and all of that. But now my own government is weaponizing that support against me in order to extort compliance from me while explicitly refusing to secure our own border. The Republicans called the Democrats' bluff by making the dilemma explicit and actionable, and now we see.
So Ukraine does not matter to me. I am not bluffing about our border. Putting our priorities first means literally putting our priorities first, which literally means that everything else must come after, not before, and not during.

I don't have a strong opinion about what should be done regarding Ukraine. I do have a strong opinion about our border: shut it down! But the two aren't really connected in my mind. It's not like anyone, on either side of the aisle, is afraid to borrow and spend money if it's something they want. And we can walk and chew gum at the same time when we want to. So all these arguments that this or that needs to be done first is pure politics. Personally, I'm tired of these kinds of games. That said, if the Rs can do something politically that tightens up the border, what's not to like?
Edit: I just want to add that the only thing lacking at the border is will. As San Francisco demonstrated recently, even something as "insoluble" as their homeless problem can be fixed over night with the right motivation.

Of course it's politics. That's how things get done. Nobody thinks that our border is physically connected to Ukraine's pallets of cash or whatever. The point is that the Rs made these issues connected, and now look at the Democrats leaking honest answers -- they won't do it no matter what.

Gee, Chuckie ... if your Adderal-addled presidential puppet just upheld the law as the oath he took with his hand on the Bible requires him to do, the Ukrainians would be okay. With all the recent illegal immigrants that have come in over the last three years, Nancy Pelosi shouldn't have any problem getting her grapes picked.
I'd get right on that if I were you.

I don't see what the problem is, unless FJB is admitting that he'll give up Ukraine to keep the border open. And wouldn't that be HIS problem?

Exactly.
