Regardless of the Supreme Court decision knocking down national injunctions, a federal judge in DC has just invalidated Trump administration orders on asylum claims in a way that appears to me to dictate that anyone getting into the country by any means can simply say "Asilo" and have a permanent get-in-to-America-free card. It is like a magic incantation: Asilo. Asilo.
Illegal immigrants coming across the border under the Biden administration would surge into the country, then cry "Asilo" and turn themselves in to border patrol agents, then be released with a court date sometime in the distant future.
Now, supposedly, if Trump wants to deport any of them - criminal, terrorist, ordinary person, whatever - a judicial process regarding asylum claims must proceed, for any and all of them. All? 20 million of them? Including the 500,000 brought to the country illegally via the border app by the Biden administration (mostly flown in after applying via the cell phone app for a flight, paid for by the government, in the dead of night and be transported to designated locales throughout the nation, with nary a word to local officials). Per the federal judge, any of these must be granted asylum or have a proceeding to determine why they should not be granted permanent asylum.
This, of course, completely overturns immigration law, rewrites any and all statutes regarding immigration, and again throws the gates wide open, as if we had no federal immigration rules whatsoever. No vetting allowed. No exclusions allowed. All illegal immigrants currently in the US must be considered asylum applicants and processed as such.
This is a complete mockery of the rule of law, citizenship, safety, public health considerations, and etc. and etc. and etc.
Can any nation survive such a ludicrous judiciary?
It appears that the lower federal courts have no respect at all for the Supreme Court, nor the rule of law, nor the separation of powers, nor anything that might remotely be called Constitutional.
Or do I misunderstand?
