Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
This post is to share some good news with the conservatives out there who are morally opposed to the perfidious transgender ideology and movement that has so rapidly expanded in the last 5 years. The topic is both a big, critical cultural issue and something of a litmus test. If a people can't get right on this, then there isn't much hope for more complicated topics.
Some issues are not a matter of politics, but instead a matter of truth. Transgenderism should not be viewed as a right or left political issue, but rather a simple case of truth versus falsehood. We live in an actual, physical universe, where basic human perception can observe it, and through reasoning we come to know things. This is a fundamental axiom that must be recognized in our society. The post-modernist stuff that has leaked out of a subset of academic philosophy and infused itself into the culture has had tangible negative consequences. One is certainly transgenderism.
And now to share a couple of positive developments:
(1) A Victim of Transgenderism in our medical system wins lawsuit
This was bound to happen: vulnerable victims of the trans movement would eventually realize the insanity of the situation and have suffered irreparable damage. For better or worse, we tend to settle things in the USA via lawsuits and financial settlements with guilty parties. In Ralph Nader's words, "suing is democratic." A lawsuit can initiate a process to hold a party in the wrong accountable. So instead of waiting for corrective government action, a person or group can take action through the courts to discourage or sometimes even end a practice. Recruiting victims of "gender affirming" medical malpractice should be a strategy of those who want to bring this barbarity to an end.
I suppose there will always be an outlet for adults who want to do extreme body modifications or cosmetic surgery, but that should be done on their own dime. It should also not be taken as "essential healthcare," as transgender advocates have argued for in having it officially instituted into our pediatric medical system.
Oh, and as a bonus, I think this (hopefully) landmark case is included as an exhibit in Nader's Museum of Lawsuits. (I've actually visited it in CT. I like the flaming rat case too.)
Pittsburgh is perhaps better known nowadays for its specialized medical services than even its steel industry. UPMC is the largest system in the area, and its renowned treatment attracts patients to Pittsburgh to receive care within the UPMC system. Unfortunately, UPMC was infiltrated by advocates for transgenderism and changed healthcare guidelines and billing codes to start making money off these "life-saving healthcare" procedures. Apparently, political actors led the changes rather than medical research or conventional peer-reviewed processes. But regrettably, people within the medical system have subscribed to this ideology. To protect itself from catastrophic damage, those individuals should either be removed permanently from the medical system or be brought into willing compliance.
I also believe transgender promotional materials should be prohibited in these medical facilities, and medical personnel should be barred from personal displays of support. A couple of years ago, a Catholic friend of mine and his wife had twins at a UPMC facility. One of the nurses came by wearing unmistakable Trans pins and decorations on her uniform. He was immediately concerned that this was a representative of the people looking after the babies and young children. Unlike some other conservatives, I do think "safe spaces" should exist. One such place is hospitals, which should be safe spaces free of truly threatening Transgenderism.
I'll end with a mini sales pitch and pep talk.
There's no shortage of drama surrounding Trump 47, including plenty of self-inflicted damage, but it would be a mistake to overlook the important work being done. There is still very much an existential contrast between the general Republican Party and the Democratic Party. I will be voting straight Republican in the upcoming midterms and look forward to doing so. To my mind, there is no question about the need for a "Back to Basics" push in our politics and in our country. The conservatives need to help anchor this within the Republican Party and box out radical and destructive policies on the left. Protecting children is integral to that. If conservatives cannot be motivated to get out and vote to finish the efforts on rolling back the Transgenderism and the concrete harm it has caused, then I really don't know what to say to reach you.
In my home state of Pennsylvania, Democrat Josh Shapiro on the campaign trail has made calls for "Every day to be Pride Day." Shapiro proudly joined others in the hardcore leftist movement in suing the Trump Administration to continue with transgender "treatment" for kids and to punish opposition to it. Governor Shapiro should have his feet to the fire, especially now with this UPMC agreement. Also, for basic civil rights, I think it should not be out of the question for the DOJ under Trump to take further actions to help rid our country of transgenderism and to fight back against the efforts to coerce individuals to support it. If that includes going after Shapiro and other political figures who are holding the line on transgenderism in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, then so be it.
This is definitely a fight that conservatives need to win. It goes beyond mere politics. This is one area where Trump's belligerence could be an asset too. It's always best to use the tools you've got.

I grew up in Pgh. and that is a sad thing to hear, that a nurse be allowed to wear buttons like that. You are right in all you say. Somewhere along the line, gender became something it never was before - multi. Transgenderism was always rare. Then through indoctrination, it almost became a trend. You are born male or female. What you do as an adult is up to you. But kids and what they are taught should be by the parents in this realm.
We woke up to a lot of things with Covid lockdowns. Parents learned what was being taught, along with anti-American crap, and pitting races and men and women against each other. Now that eyes are open, there is pushback and you are right, Trump is disrupting this trend. Unfortunately, there are so many kids depressed, or anti-social and addicted to technology, where all this stuff was fed. Visit a country or culture where they don't have it and you won't find much transgenderism.

I strongly agree, with the caveat that the left has embraced postmodernism and other untruths as useful tools to destroy our society and acquire power. As I'm sure you've noticed, the postmodern solution to every perceived problem is Marxist.
Another example of the left's embrace of falsehood is its war on science, in which established facts and the scientific method itself are attacked as wrong and evil. Sometimes the attack is on behalf of feminism, sometimes race, etc.

I heard many commenters wondering why the Dems did not pick moderate Shapiro to run for VP.
Moderate? Not so much.
Fetterman is also a transgender advocate.
Pennsylvania beware.

Yes, Shapiro is functionally no "moderate". I've tried to say that here before so I hope more people catch on. He benefits from a very mild, formal appearance and can be measured in his public speaking. His political commercials are also very well done. But when you scratch below the surface you start to discover things.
Fetterman appears to be in the process of being dumped by the Democrat Party. I've now seen a series of hit pieces on him. One line of attack is his health and ability to carry out his duties as Senator. Both of these things were known before he was elected and his serious health issues were downplayed back then. Simply because Fetterman is NOT a flaming anti-Jewish and anti-Isreal person he is being treated with hostility. He is also critical of the IRGC Iran. He might get challenged in next primary if he isn't hounded out before then. Also recall the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh. Fetterman has had positive contact with Pennsylvania Jewish voters and is more sensitive to violence against Jews than most Dems. But he is still no conservative and is not suitable for the Republican Party. But he deserves some recognition for not being a total fanatic and does not strictly follow the Left orthodoxy. I think he has disappointed Dems greatly because they marked him as a "dumb brain damaged robot" that they could tell how to vote. Apparently he has a hard time keeping staff too. It's hard to recruit if you can't provide future career opportunities to the young ambitious climbers.

Okay, so if I understand correctly your main objection is that it's practically, and deliberately being used as a means to sow disorder in the society. Then institute their own structures. Well, I don't disagree that it's heavily been implemented along partisan lines.
The framing I did was simply to indicate there is no validity to the Transgenderism position. It's a total imposition on the rest of society with how they have gone about it. There are also non-conservatives and non-Republicans who recognize this too. In more mundane politics we can argue over spending on social welfare programs, defense, etc. However, with Transgenderism it's a total different category in my view. We are no longer arguing about what routine policies to have, but rather the fundamental aspects of reality. This is in large part why conservatives in power need to be firm with how it is addressed while the GOP has power.
