If you follow my writing at all, you may have noticed that I am deeply obsessed with two related topics: Jews (usually about anti-Semitism and attacks) and Muslims (the impact of their faith in the world). It seems like most times I’m moved to write on a topic lately, I focus on these subjects. I have written on other subjects (such as U.S. governance and transgender issues), but I feel really compelled to return to these two.
I imagine that some of you would tell me to go on writing about what I wish. Don’t worry whether others want to read it or not—everyone has that choice. Some of you may say that my obsession is over the top, and just because one of my obsessions is piqued, I don’t always have to write about it.
When I reflect on my purpose in writing, I have three goals: 1) I want to write about things I care about; 2) I want to write on subjects that Ricochetees care about and want to read; 3) I want to think that G-d would approve of and bless my posts (if that doesn’t sound too arrogant).
One way of giving me feedback on my concerns is to tell me your goals in writing: How do you choose your subjects? Do you have topics that you overly rely on because of a concern or interest you have?
I know this probably sounds irrational, but I guess the bottom line is: Should I care about writing too much on a given topic? I suspect some would prefer I didn’t write about anti-Semitism or Muslims, but should that stop me?
Many of you have known me for a long time, and I would appreciate any candid feedback you can give me; those who are new to the site might have an important perspective, too. I’m not looking for kudos but simply your reflections on how I can make the best contribution to this site. If you have questions about my inquiry, feel free to speak up.
Thanks.

I don't consider myself to be a writer, but I like to read good writing. I would hesitate to say that you have an obsession, but a deep concern. Sometimes writing things out helps us to organize our thoughts. As a Christian, I also am concerned with both Jews and Muslims and my best response to the issues of the day. Your writing helps me in that regard. I hope that you keep writing until you are content that you have covered the topic as completely as you can.

One of the things I appreciate most about your writing, Susan, is that it comes from a place of humility. You seem to be continually, as you are here, honestly examining both your beliefs and your motives. My advice is to do as you are doing: writing in pursuit of truth and understanding about those things which you are passionate about. In this age of lies and confusion, that's about as noble a contribution as one can make.

Let me go take a look at what topics I have written about, besides Ricochet Meetups and the occasional Saturday Night Classics entry. There doesn't seem to be much of a theme to mine. Some are based on a news article that catches my attention. Some are written because I want to challenge an apparent consensus view on Ricochet. Sometimes I start writing a post and realize I don't have that much to say, so I don't save it. Sometimes I think I only have a couple of paragraphs to write about a topic, but then I get into it and get a medium-sized post out of it.
I don't believe so.
