Is 274 FBI Guys a Lot?

There is a report today that, contrary to earlier impressions from FBI statements, there were 274 plainclothes FBI agents present on Jan 6. That is significant largely because there had been a concerted effort to create the impression of a minimal presence. It is a gift to the conspiracy-minded, of whom I am one on even-numbered days.

There were a reported 26 paid FBI informants present. We do not have the number of DC cops, military intel, and police personnel and personnel from other federal law enforcement agencies present, but my back of the envelop guess is that as much as 10% of the crowd was non-uniformed law enforcement which strikes me as a big number. Nobody made a speech about not entering the building? Nobody led some other effort to distract or divert or prevent?

I do not support or condone the initial forced entry or the clown show with the speaker's podium. But the performance of all law enforcement present was appallingly bad and the scale of prosecutions partisan and excessive. But the real mystery may be what the hell all those feds were doing in large numbers without even the slightest indication that they tried to prevent or reduce lawless behavior.

This post was promoted to the Main Feed at the recommendation of Ricochet's members.

Back in 1971 at the huge May demonstration, I witnessed a DC cop in hippie clothes make a speech and lead a sizeable crowd north, away from federal triangle while claiming to be marching on the Attorney General's office which was actually a block in front of them. (The cop was a regular in Georgetown, recognized as a narc by my acquaintances and had the same outfit at the demonstration.) The effort was kinda ballsy and brilliant and consistent with a number of energetic efforts to maintain control in the most logistically challenging event local law enforcement had ever faced--still the record for most arrests.

I tell the story because the DC cops and the FBI have the accumulated experience, expertise and resources to deal with much larger, much more dangerous crowds than the Jan 6 crowd and yet they failed to secure two entrances and control a crowd that was not set on a break-in until the very last minute. I still find that surprising.

And of course, the Dems kept the national guard out, since they were not clued in on the plan and would have mucked it all up by keeping the crowd out of the Capitol. Someday the truth will out, but maybe not anytime soon.

Hmm. If I were an honest agent, I would have wondered about the ratio of agents to amount of uniformed security planned.

If I were an honest agent nearing retirement, I would have kept my mouth shut because I knew those at the top were corrupt and whistleblowers were punished.

If I were a citizen who could read the lefty Dems like an open book, I would be shocked to learn this after learning about all the “informants” in the crowd. They weren’t needed. I would assume the “informants” were there to agitate the crown into violence and the FBI was there to see as many MAGA as possible could be punished for supporting Trump.

If I had followed Trump rallies which were nonviolent, I would have assumed the normal Trump rally attendees were not violent. In fact, it took a few agitators and police firing stuff into the crowd to turn it violent. Once a riot is sparked, it gets a life of its own. I would assume the left Dems knew MAGA rally attendees would t turn violent on their own but would need help.

I would say you are "anti-conspiracy minded", since you stand against these conspiring rats:)
