The transformation of our American culture has been impacted by imigrants from our southern border in myriad ways. We can debate the pros and cons, but Mexican and South American cuisine has clearly improved the culinary milieu we now take for granted. There are hundreds of dishes that we eat on a regular basis that were unheard of a few decades ago. In 1960, there was almost no one who knew what a taco was and now Taco Tuesday is a staple of almost every restaurant menu.
With that being said, let me point out that when you eat at a Peruvian or Cuban restaurant, ask for an extra side order of fried plantains. Don't eat them, take them home and make banana pudding with them.
I guess this is a form of cultural appropriation but those fried plantains make the best banana pudding ever.

Those look like they would be good but I am still going to buy a side order when I see them on the menu. When I can go to a restaurant, enjoy a meal, and also take home something that makes me happy the next day, I am in heaven.

The Mexican grocery that my dad and I stop in every Friday has plantains. We've never picked any up, nor the nopales. They've good prices on most of the produce, and the deli is better too.
