Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

Climate change becoming a major driver of child marriage across Asia and the Pacific by Claire Campbell Australian Broadcast Corporation July 9, 2026
Hat tip: Powerlineblog
Twelve-year-old girls are being sold as wives more than usual because of climate change in Bangladesh. This, even though average annual rainfall has been steady or dropping for decades and even though deaths from major storms have plummeted over the last 40 years. Despite the long-established certainty of monsoon flooding, the continued gross negligence in preparations is presumably also due to climate change. Temperatures may have increased by as much as 0.5 C on average over the last half century in Bangladesh, which does not appear to have made the slightest measurable difference in either extreme or normal weather patterns. The most recent monsoon has caused widespread damage and hardship, though presumably unlike all previous monsoon-driven flooding over the centuries, this one was caused by anthropogenic climate change. Hence, more little girls needed to be put on the market.
So a non-existent change in climate has caused men (all of whom happen to belong to an unnamed religion, and yes, there is not the slightest hint in the article that this practice is a uniquely Islamic barbarism) to "cope" with the effects of climate change by selling little girls at a greater rate than normal. Clearly, we can infer that this is the fault of the SUV owner and non-socialist Western governments who must bear all culpability.
This could be the single dumbest article you will encounter this year.

Is seventeen really "child bride"? (Yes, I know I'm ignoring the "married off involuntarily to a man she didn't know" part of the story).

Should the title of this article really be "Unrelated aid agency asks, 'how can we get some of that sweet climate change cash we hear is sloshing around?'"
I'll admit, this the kind of title I would normally scroll past, but I felt compelled to click to try and figure out how they would strait faced combine these topics.

Well, one must follow the science wherever it goes... Even into madness.

We’re in the midst of a monsoon here in Korea. Still no child brides.

Since "climate change" is global, why aren't civilized countries pushing for laws allowing girls to marry at a young age? Hmmm?
