Routine Abuse

A kneejerk partisan assistant US Attorney in Houston has filed a HIPAA criminal complaint against the whistleblower MD who revealed that three doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital were still doing “gender-affirming care” (on kids as young as 11!!) after the hospital CEO claimed they were no longer doing that. The patients' identities and other personal information were redacted in documents shared with the journalist who published the whistleblower’s claims. (Therefore it is tough to claim a HIPAA violation.) This was without much doubt a bad faith shot across the bow against an openly non-woke actor within the medical profession who dared to speak out against these horrific practices.

Such a thing is just another day at the office for Biden’s DOJ which has targeted other people solely for being the kind of people likely to read this post. Abusing prosecutorial powers for partisan reasons is bad enough but specifically going after whistleblowers, silencing content in social media, and making the DOJ and FBI an ideological enforcement arm demands corrective pushback and pain.

None of those who perpetrated the big lie of the “Russigate/dossier” hoax are jobless or in prison. Nor any of the many who promulgated the egregious and deeply stupid claim that Hunter’s laptop was a Russian plant. (If you have the stomach for it, this a link to 20-minutes of liars, and incompetents defending that very lie.) Alvin Bragg, Letitia James, Judge Engeron, Judge Merchan, and Fani Willis are each a public disgrace who has damaged public confidence in the rule of law and openly betrayed their oath of office. But it does not seem likely that they will ever suffer any professional or other repercussions.

It appears that the case against Dr. Eithan Haim is extraordinarily weak. But Houston has a long and proud tradition of partisan judges and juries—the plaintiff’s bar (especially those bringing shareholder derivative suits every time a stock price dropped) once would go to great lengths to file cases in Houston because corporate defendants had almost zero chance of winning no matter how dubious the claim. As we saw in NY and DC, there are now urban jury pools whose members are solely interested in ideological tribal signaling rather than facts or law.

Until some law licenses get shredded and some media figures and others are considered too toxic to hire, there will be no balance and no justice. If offending federal lawyers and abusive regulators claim civil service protection it may be time for Congress to create a Mattress Tag Removal Enforcement Bureau with offices in Slope County, ND or perhaps the Aleutians and staff it accordingly.
