Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
This is the text that my husband got today. It seems the "debate" of all debates managed to move that sacred evening to tomorrow night. Several of the male neighbors get together to play, but the proper name is Billiards, Bourbon and Beer with a few dark pretzels thrown in. Everyone wants to tune in, since it seems the only time Harris will talk to Trump. In fact, they supposedly have never met. I heard they like to play-act in California, so someone dressed as a Trump has been her practice partner.
Newsom play-acted as governor and ordered the massive tent cities to be cleaned up and dismantled when Harris, their Senator from California, won—I mean, was positioned—the Democratic nomination for President in 2024. He spiffed up the place just at that moment. The drugs, homelessness, mass illegal border crossings, and lawlessness are all still there, but there isn't a big enough rug to sweep these problems under that she has ignored as a senator. It looks better, though.
The Harris camp wanted the network hosting the debate to leave the mics on, hoping they'd catch Trump in a hot mic moment and doom his chances.
Trump's foot seems to find his mouth often enough, but it's strange that this is the best they can hope for. You could just try and tell the country your policies and values and plans, Ms. Harris, but you do it your way. If she were elected, I picture a Putin look-alike in a room off the Oval with a red light above the door and a sign reading, "Quiet on the set." That's either a nightmare or an SNL skit. I'll pass on the first one.
My left-wing cousin told me, "The person whose name we don't mention in this house, the low-life convicted felon, told a bunch of right-wing extremists (Christians) they won't ever have to vote again if he's elected. He'll just become a dictator and never leave office!" They only watch CNN.
My Southern sister-in-law sums things up in a much more reasonable way. "If that woman gets in, it's all goin' down the daggone tubes! This election is gonna be a hum-dinger!"
I blame the news feeds on both sides for all the rancor and turmoil. Both women said this is keeping them up at night. My sister-in-law's a nurse and needs her rest. It shouldn't have come to this.
Harris already has advantages as she walks on stage. She wasn't shot at recently and has both ears intact, she hasn't been repeatedly dragged through ice-cold kangaroo courts, and has the social media moguls promising not to mess with this election info like last time, or block any other stories they don't like. But just in time, the powers-that-be are revving up the AI tools to do that.
A free, fair and one-night election is all we're asking for, minus massive mail-ins, hanging chads, and weeks to decide the winner. In fact, we Americans demand it and deserve it. The one thing my liberal cousin said that I agreed with is, "We each have our free vote. That is what separates us from the tyrannical regimes across the world."
Sometimes we look like one. We've seen our flag burned, monuments defaced, borders compromised, and cities and schools burning and shot up, people living on the streets, street drugs killing our population, and voices silenced. Children are even told by some to doubt their gender. Tyranny has many faces.
So this election is crucial to remember and guard what America means. To leave such a big responsibility up to just one debate, or even one state to turn the tide, seems ludicrous. The bourbon, beer and balls will line up tomorrow night and the discussions will be lively. God bless America!

Your liberal cousin is lost or lying when they say we each have 1 free vote . He/she gets there vote fortified .. full stop . They know it and pretend not to know it .

It's a she and she was a brilliant teacher for 25 years and National Scrabble champion. She doesn't know it however - how can that be? Even brilliant people can be brainwashed.

I expect part of the media play, post-debate, will be to try to “Biden” Trump, by saying he sounded old and confused during the debate. Now he’s the old guy, and they’ll run with it.

Or just always only getting one side of the story, might be sufficient. The more difficult part of that would be people who were around during Trump's first term and somehow think it was some kind of dystopian hellscape that only Biden and now Harris can somehow fix.

I found interesting the reports that vice president Harris was being prepared for the debate using someone who even dressed as Trump, after the report several weeks ago about VP Harris wanting a full dress rehearsal before some dinner event, as the two episodes both suggest a person (Harris) who can't spontaneously handle the types of interactions that a president of the United States is routinely expected to handle .
