A Test for Derangement

The Democrats have opposed Trump’s actions against Iran from day one. Various reasons have been given, none of them being factually accurate, militarily wise, diplomatically wise, or geopolitically wise.

As a result, the term TDS has been used to describe the Democratic opposition. To push back against the charge of TDS, the Democrats invoked IDS (Israeli Derangement Syndrome, aka anti-Semitism). The Democrats claimed Trump was tricked into the war by Bebe.

Well, we have reached a period of relative calm. A lot has happened in the last 47 days. Those of us who are TDS-free are fairly optimistic about the future and quite impressed by the military successes of the past 7 weeks. Predicting the future is always dicey, but it is hard to see what cards — if any — Iran has left to play. The military part of this drama is maybe over: Iran lost. We appear to have moved into a phase characterized by economic warfare, and it looks even more lopsided than the military phase.

So, Democrats, if you are rational, if you don’t suffer from some sort of derangement, now would be a good time to prove your ability to change your views in the face of changed circumstances. Accusing Israel of starting the conflict is not terribly relevant at this point. If you have an opinion about what the USA should do now, now would be a good time to express it.

To Blockade or Not Blockade, that is the question. We await your opinion.

Before you speak, I want to point out something else that has changed in the last few weeks. We have added allies. Saudi Arabia is on our side now. So is Kuwait, U.A.E. (home of Abu Dhabi and Dubai), Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman. They all want Iran crushed.

Please don’t repeat the same old song about how we are Israel’s puppet. If you stick with that schtick, you become more anti-Israel than Saudi Arabia. That is not a good look. It looks, well, it looks deranged.

G-Pub

PS: Well, lo and behold, the Democrats in the House just forced a vote on arbitrarily ending the war. Guess what? Each and every Democrat voted to cut and run. No reporting on any debate. No reporting on anything intelligent said by any Democrat.

Back in the Vietnam era, the expression was that the best way to win over hearts and minds was to grab them by the short and curlies. Once you do that, the hearts and minds will follow. Let’s recap: Navy, gone. Air Force, gone. Nuclear Program, under rubble. Missiles, mostly gone, with no means to replace them. Top political and military leadership, gone. Primary base of the entire economy (oil sales), gone. Access to money hidden away in foreign banks, gone. Ability to pay soldiers, gone. Ability to stop hyperinflation, gone. Ability to block the Strait, apparently gone. (Yes, surprises may still occur, but so far, so good.) It certainly looks like their short and curlies are in our grasp.

So, 100% House Democrat support for snatching defeat from the jaws of the most consequential military victory in 80 years. A military victory was achieved with minimal American casualties in less than two months.

Cool move, Democrats. I dare you to give a cogent reason for your vote. Saying that the New York Times says Iran is winning is not a cogent reason.

It's pretty rare to find anybody who is TDS-free these days.

Democrats don’t have opinions or thoughts. They only have feelings. They can never admit that Trump ever did anything of value. Hatred is all they have.

The term TDS has useful meaning when it describes someone who reverses their own previous opinions just to oppose Trump. Jennifer Rubin or William Kristol are good examples. However, if the person would have had the same opinions regardless of Trumps opinion, regardless of whether Trump existed, accusing them of TDS is just a cheap lazy insult. Cheap lazy insults may be fun, but they really don't address the reasons behind the disagreement.

I am going to disagree. It doesn't matter how much you dislike Trump, disagree with his opinions, or want to see if fail, if you are you are rooting for Iran to win the current conflict with the US there are only two possibilities:

    1. Trump derangement syndrome. You are so bent over the axle hating Trump you are incapable of rational thought as to the consequences of being defeated by Iran.
    2. Treason. You are rationally providing aid and comfort to a nation that has considered itself at war with the United States for the last 47 years. Because that is what rooting for Iran amounts to.

Given the two options I prefer the cause to be TDS than treason. The former can be considered insanity, hopefully temporary. The latter demands the person supporting Iran be treated as hostis humani generis. Because Iran is a pirate nation, whose current leaders seek the literal destruction of the world as a precursor to the arrival of the final Imam.

My father loathed George H. W. Bush. Hated him with an irrational passion. Was a lifelong yellow dog Democrat who despised the Republican Party. After the Gulf War of 1990-91 he would occasionally remark, "I still think Bush is a [CoC violation], but you know, in taking down Saddam Hussain he did good." I don't hear anything similar from those who hate Trump in reference to Iran. I prefer to think them nuts (suffering from TDS) than traitors. That includes those who switched positions because Trump or who started out opposing him because he was Republican.
