The extreme Democrat intransigence regarding DHS funding and their willingness to inflict pain and injury on ordinary Americans to achieve their goal against ICE leads me to believe that this is an existential issue for Democrats. It seems to me that Democrats are counting heavily on illegal immigration to enhance their Congressional representation, and that this is a key feature of their plan to make America as much a one-party country as California and other states are one-party blue states. I think they have been counting on sanctuary cities and states to harbor enough illegal aliens to give them enough congressional seats to achieve and then maintain a perpetual majority in Congress, at least in the House. Just as Democrats held the House for 40 years, until Newt Gingrich upset their majority in 1996, Democrats have plans to recover that lasting majority, and they will do anything toward that end.
Democrats are aware that Americans are leaving blue states for more favorable business climes, where freedom from a vast and incompetent bureaucracy and excessive taxes exists. The party is not confident that it can maintain sufficient populations in those jurisdictions to retain its Congressional seats. (See Kathy Hochul's plea to prosperous constituents leaving New York to return and fund her welfare state.) They seek warm bodies from elsewhere—unproductive, dependent, criminal, whatever—to maintain population and hence House representation. Never mind the redistricting. That only shuffles the chairs on the Titanic deck. They need more warm bodies. And they fear they will suffer ignominious loss of control if they do not keep those illegal aliens in their states to be counted in the census.
Further, it seems to me that Democrats (Progressives) have now so fully captured the national body politic that one of the main engines of their control is federal largesse to states without effective oversight of the funds. Blue states seem to count on massive fraud among their dependents—including most illegal immigrants—to keep their captive populations voting for them. Far left Democrats in Minnesota can certainly count on fraud by immigrants to both keep those immigrants loyal to Democrats as well as enhance funding to Democrat political campaigns by all that fraudulent federal cash flowing into their state. Never mind that most of it winds up in the hands of terrorists in Somalia. That is, as they say, just collateral damage. They have to keep the federal spigots open and the fraudulent flow of American tax dollars to their criminal constituents for their political flourishing.
As April 15 draws near, I get a little hot under the collar thinking about all that American tax money flowing to fraudsters claiming to provide daycare and autism care in Minnesota, and Medicaid services in California, while local politicians seek to attack whistleblowers spilling the beans on all that fraud.
As far as I can tell, the federal government is one giant fraud machine, generating unlimited and ever-flowing cash to the most nefarious fraudsters in the country, which to me means most of the Democrat Party.
Under the threat of criminal prosecution, I feel that when I file my taxes, I am contributing to the giant fraud machine that is the American federal government.
I am not happy about this state of affairs. And I don't think much can convince me that I am wrong.

You are not wrong. The people supporting these Democrat politicians leading the approach you have described, including many illegal immigrants, tend to be of low productive capability and generally are not averse to cheating and stealing and many are criminal as has been demonstrated.. To correct this, a way needs to be found to deal with the actions of the Democrat leaders. Official sanctuary functions in states are illegal since they are designed to impede and nullify federal law enforcement. State and local government officials supporting or ignoring fraud by constituents is also criminal and should be prosecuted.

Republicans are hardly penny pinchers. I wonder if it ever occurs to them that the spending which they approve is used for fraud?

I wonder if Democrats are intentionally driving voters out of blue states so that the refugees flee to red states and turn them purple . . .
As for California, I'm looking for some shenanigans to put a Dem in the governor's mansion . . .

I for one am convinced that it does occur to them and that they also are counting on the state of affairs to maintain their political careers.
(per Lily Tomlin, I try to be cynical, but it is so hard to keep up)
