Why Do Leftists Ignore Underlying Costs?

Is there anything liberals want for which they are willing to do realistic cost/benefit analyses?

The answer seems to be "no." When they have a cause, liberals don't care about figuring out consequences and opportunity costs. This disinterest seems to underly their view of wind turbines and high-speed trains and mass transit; ditto for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), organic food, DEI, ESG, COVID restrictions, gun ownership, and, well .... everything. "Good" things must be mandated. "Bad" things must be banned.

Where does that come from? Does it come from an inability to think critically? Or a belief that viewing things like a child does has its own virtue?

More importantly: is there any top-level way to fix the problem, short of crash courses in unintended consequences, comparative advantage, opportunity costs, and critical thinking? Is there any one kind of question that can help a liberal understand just how juvenile and pathetic their position is on any hot-button topic?

    I think the underlying issues have to do with first order thinking, and the inability to consider the actual results of what they ask for. High corporate taxes translate immediately to all items costing more, but they ignore it and say it will come out of the fat corporations profits. All of their plans can only have their stated results, and anything else cannot possiblly exist.

    Too much math. Reduced opportunities for virtue signaling.

    I think the "unintended" part of "unintended consequences" is their biggest hang-up. It doesn't matter how pure your heart is; printing money is inflationary.
