The National Football League's preseason has kicked off. And that means the social media contest of 2025 is about to commence. That's right: It's time for Ricochet's second annual Fantasy Football showdown!

Last year, a couple dozen within our ranks put together two leagues to determine who among us could best draft and manage a dream team of pro football's superstars. Charles Cooke and Laurence Fromm reigned supreme. Hoorays, hurrahs, and bravos are in order.

But that was then, this is now. Twenty of us are mildly sore about the whole affair -- enough so that we're inclined to consider the first go a trial run. To make it official, the Ricochet Powers That Be are putting their money where their mouth is. Alongside eternal fame and glory, each league champion in this year's fantasy football competition will win $50 cash!

We're all about skin in the game at Ricochet. (Pigskins included.) It's kept things interesting around here for 15 years, and we hope it will entice a bit more participation from the fun-loving, center-right types who have made this place the best site the internet has to offer.

If this were an action film franchise, its byline would be: "Settling the Score." If it were a hip-hop record, it would insist that you don't call it a comeback. But it's neither of those things. It's Ricochet Fantasy Football.

The draft will take place on Saturday, August 30th, at 5 pm ET.

To sign up, email your username and email address to fantasyfootball@ricochet.com. We'll put together as many leagues as we have takers.

Game on!

If you're a Ricochet member, consider yourself invited. If you know of someone who might be interested, invite them to become a Ricochet member! Once they sign up, they're as invited as if they'd been with us from the beginning. Our only ground rule is that they stay with us for the duration — we're confident that a football season stint on the Ricochet team will persuade them to dump interweb free agency in favor of signing on for the long haul.
