Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
On a couple of occasions over the past month or so, I've thought of putting together a thread on the topic of Trump's first year (football terms: first quarter) back in office.
I no longer have any need to do so (whew!), since I just came across one that does a much, much, much better job of it than I ever would have had the time or inclination to do. It comes in the form of a long-form X post (a recently added feature on the platform, one that I heartily welcome) by someone with the handle of "Real Political Data."
It begins thusly:
"We're through the first 12 months of Trump's second term, and to say it's been more controversial than his first term would be a massive understatement. Especially within the MAGA base. For many Trump supporters, they would call Trump's second term as the best of any President in modern history. But at the same time many have been extremely critical of the administration, with some saying it's been a disappointment, failure, whatever word you want to call it.
Now let's be clear, the administration hasn't been perfect and they've had some critical mistakes that will be mentioned when we get to that, but some of the current narratives surrounding the Trump administration are not only an exaggeration, but in some areas a complete fabrication and not based on anything remotely real. So as you can probably tell, I have been (mostly) in support of Trump's second term, and while I will be harsh with my words at times when I think the administration does something bad, I believe that the administration hasn't had a proper defense written by really anyone. So we're going to give an accurate assessment of the administration, and go over major criticisms, and see if they hold up or not."
The analysis is comprised of a long list of Trump campaign promises, which are then individually addressed regarding whether and/or to what degree he/his administration have kept them.
It is superbly done (including copious supporting links), and I highly recommend it. Warning, again: it's long, and it is only Part I, so approach accordingly.
Here it is:

That was an extensive examination of Trump's campaign platform and how much Trump has done, in a single year, to complete the self-assigned tasks of that platform. By my count, there were 85 issues/actions/promises listed on the platform. I counted 73 yeses, a bunch of "working on it," and about a dozen nos. Some of the yeses were multiple yeses on the same platform plank.
Is anyone surprised? If so, please name another POTUS who has done more in a single year of his term.

If people can’t be happy with or grateful for a president who delivers on his promises, do they deserve a president who delivers on his promises?
