Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Almost all songs featured in Saturday Night Classics have singing in them, but not this one. Tonight, I am going with the greatest TV theme song of all time. Sure, there have been other greats. Who doesn't enjoy the theme song to Bonanza? Hearing the Miami Vice theme will take many of us back in time and bring forth visions of flamingos, Ferraris, and flashy pistols. The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Barney Miller all have catchy theme songs, and the theme song from Simon & Simon is outstanding. Even the theme song from the 1960s Batman TV show swings.
At the peak of this pyramid is Mike Post's Rockford Files theme. Mike Post wrote a lot of music for TV, as you can see on his website. Watching The Rockford Files, I found it very enjoyable to hear the multitude of variations of the theme played during musical interludes during the show itself. At any rate, let's get to it.
It occurs to me that the above-mentioned TV shows have been gone a looong time. Are there any 21st-century TV shows that have had great theme songs? I can't think of any that are in the same league as those listed.
As usual, thanks to the dearly departed @RandyWebster for starting this series. And thank you, @Hoyacon, for keeping it going!

I love The A-Team theme song, but I have trouble distinguishing between a song that is actually, objectively, musically good vs. a theme song that gives me some sweet, sweet Gen-X nostalgia.
The theme music from Frasier (it is played at the end of each episode over the credits scene) is delightful and unique but not exactly what you're referring to here.

In terms of popularity and just being played everywhere globally, the Game of Thrones theme would be THE one for the 21st century thus far. And I do think it deserves to be on any list of best themes.
Others from this century that are good and that I found very fitting: Stranger Things, Mad Men, Community, The Office. There are too many shows nowadays so it’s gotta be quite different (beyond just great) to stand out.
