This song was released in November 1955 and reached No. 1 on the The US R&B charts and No. 2 on the Billboard hot 100 in 1956. I discovered it while listening to my Mother's record collection as a kid in the 70's and it still gives me goosebumps when I haven't heard it in awhile...

I was only eight years old when that song was released! Yeah, it seems like it was just yesterday in my mind. That was a great song! The lyrics make me wonder if it describes the emotions of a gay man. I had never thought about that previously.

I really don't know if it is describing that in particular. I think that there could be dozens of interpretations.

The follow-up to Only You, which it exceeded in popularity. Love them both. See the Bill Haley/Alan Freed flick Rock Around the Clock where The Platters did both.

Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
