Does Human Life Only Have Value as a Commodity?

I read a Not the Bee article today that really has me shaken.

The gist of the story is that a woman in California agreed to be a surrogate mother, apparently without realizing that these men were just renting her uterus, and without understanding that neither she nor the unborn child had any rights in this transaction. She developed breast cancer and wanted to deliver the healthy baby at 25 weeks so she could start chemo. The men did not want the burden of the possible medical complications of a preemie, and so they ordered her to let the baby die. She offered to adopt the baby, but all these monsters wanted was a death certificate for their property. The baby was delivered early and, without care, was allowed to die.

And we call ours an advanced civilization.

I wondered to myself how anyone could possibly do this. Does human life have no value at all? But that begs the question: When, in all of history, has human life been valued for anything other than the price it will fetch? There have been slaves forever. In the Old Testament of the Bible, Joseph was sold by his brothers. In the New Testament, Jesus was sold for thirty pieces of silver. There have been wars forever, with mercenaries bought and paid for, or as payment to a country or religion. Millions upon millions upon millions have died in payment for the tyrannical designs of so-called leaders. To this day, prostitution, surrogacy, and the euphemistically named human trafficking all depend upon what someone will pay to use another human. Historically, children have been born only to be used by their own families as cheap labor or sold into servitude. Supposedly this is no longer allowed. Or is it?

What are we as a species when we are so willing to sell and purchase each other?

Because He created me, I know God loves me and wants the best for me. I am not so sure about the intentions of my fellow humans.

A couple of decades ago in California, I heard a homosexual who was concerned about scientists discussing whether there is a "gay gene" that would predict the sexual orientation of a fetus. Why was he bothered? Well, he was afraid that mothers, with the father's concurrence, might decide to abort rather than give birth to a likely homosexual. This sick jerk had no problem with a woman deciding to abort because giving birth might interfere with her vacation plans, but considered it immoral/wrong to abort because of the presence of the "gay gene", assuming it was detected.

I haven't thought it through, but it seems to come down to the question of what gives life intrinsic value.

If you have no faith in anything other than your own desires, is there an intrinsic value to life? Is this life all there is? Then what is the point? To be or not to be.

So a straight dude who made a mistake can't offer to adopt and pay for the baby he made with the female's consent but two dudes can force a female to basically have an abortion. The law seems biased.

    No Lives Matter.

In this story, the human life is not even a commodity. It's not for sale, it is more like inconvenient biological waste product.

Lives only matter when they are politically convenient.
