I occasionally read assertions from fellow members that what's posted on Ricochet constitutes their main--or even, only--source of news, so in that vein, and as a public service, I'm posting a link to Ilhan Omar's recent rant (in Somali, no less), explaining how it is that the US Government is in thrall to Somalis in this country. To wit:

“The US government will only do what Somalians in the US tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia. We Somalians must have the confidence in ourselves that we call the shots in the US.”

The background for the matter of which she speaks is a little complicated, in that it encompasses both "Somalia" (a country) and Somaliland (an unrecognized attempted break-away state which most countries still consider a part of Somalia itself). If you're confused by this, please consult the Wikipedia article, which clarifies everything by observing that:

The name Somaliland is derived from two words: "Somali" and "land".

You don't say. 🤔

Several conservative sites and bloggers have been on this from the get-go, notably Steve Hayward on Powerline. If it's been covered, here, apologies, I missed it.

First thing that occurred to me? Isn't it funny how quick certain people are to jump to conclusions and start shouting about "dual-loyalty" the moment any Jew in America says something remotely supportive of Israel?

Thank God such a question will never arise when it comes to Ilhan Omar. She hates the country that gave her refuge and has facilitated her ascension to the heights of power, something she could never have dreamed of in that country she calls "our land."

When she talks about "our land, trust me: She doesn't mean Minnesota.

Her speech doesn't seem to be getting much of an airing on the mainstream media, so I thought I'd share it here.

It's been a joy to learn in recent months that our city intends on importing Somalis for local taxpayers to support. And they didn't even have the courtesy to let us taxpaying citizens know about it until the ink was dried on the deal.

But we are assured that they are fully vetted by the U.S. Government.

Sorry, this gives me no assurances at all.

It was brought up on the Three Martini Lunch podcast yesterday and Washington Post writer Jim Geraghty commented that the Republicans have their nuts, such as, MTG, Gaetz, and Boebart. Greg Corombos had to mention that this is worse than anything on the Republican side and Jim did a small recovery job. I don't think anyone has posted about it.

What an ungrateful and disloyal woman! She's just confirming what we already knew: she hates this country.

Yeah. I am by no means immune to the argument that there are some loons on our side as well. If a person really wants to convince me--on this particular issue--on the grounds of "proportional response," he'll have to show me that the people he's citing have, as their core motivation, hatred and disrespect for this country. I don't see that in any of the people mentioned above, none of whom, as far as I am aware, has attempted to subjugate the interests of the United States to a foreign nation, which is what Omar is doing here.

PS: I tried to listen to the Three Martini Lunch for a while, but gave up because I found it boring, humorless, and dumb.

Geraghty is the senior political writer for National Review. He does contribute columns to the Post.
