While Democrats pat themselves on the back for electing Zohran Mamdani to Mayor of New York City, they have no idea how dark the future appears. But if the citizens of New York State look at Elise Stefanik, Rep. from New York, they can hope that she will be the first Republican elected to statewide office since 2002, when George Pataki won.
Stefanik has a great deal going for her. She has shown she has the fearlessness to run in a state like New York:
First elected to Congress in 2014, then the youngest woman elected to the House, Stefanik has risen through the ranks of the GOP leadership, serving as conference chairwoman in the last Congress. She built a national profile as a vocal defender of Trump during his first impeachment in 2019 and has become a prolific fundraiser.
Perhaps her most notable confrontation was the questioning of university leaders who tried to defend their commitment to fighting anti-Semitism; two of them left their posts after the ordeal.
Stefanik is showing progress in the polls:
In a poll released Tuesday, the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank, finds Stefanik getting 43 percent support compared to Hochul’s 42 percent — a statistical tie that still gives the House Republican a slight edge. Nine percent of those surveyed said they support someone else, while 7 percent said they are ‘not sure.’ The results mark a major reversal from just a couple of months ago, when an August Siena College poll showed Hochul with a 14-point lead over Stefanik.
Stefanik needs the enthusiastic support of the Republican Party:
To help her win, Republicans need more than luck. They need a plan. New York is brutal territory — 11% GOP registration in the city, 23% statewide — but there’s a real opportunity to offer voters a better path to getting the state back on track. The GOP can’t wait for another perfect storm; it has to build one.
With the unacceptable cost of housing, skyrocketing taxes, the threat of more rent control, the burgeoning homeless population, and deficient law enforcement, change is essential.
The Republican Party also has to rally all the constituents, including many of the Jews, who refused to vote for Mamdani and engage the community leaders who are ready for a change; appeal to those New Yorkers who have lived under socialist and Communist governments; and back her with the funding she deserves.

Elise is the real deal. There's hope for New York if she wins, and if we can get one Republican into the state Senate so she can get laws passed. Of course, we've got the fraud machine dating back to Tammany Hall to deal with. Heck, dating back to Aaron Burr.

She's been a consistent good surprise. I had low expectations because it's NY, but she has been rock solid.

Prediction of the Hochul campaign themes against her:
But TRUMP!
But ABORTION!
But "trans" youth!

True. And Elise has plenty to throw back! ;-)

I think there is a better chance in NY than a place like California.
