Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Eight months ago (Dec ’24), 26-year-old Luigi Mangione allegedly killed the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson, shooting him in the back. Luigi is currently in jail awaiting trial for the crime which he has essentially already confessed to in his letter to “The Feds.” He is getting fan letters in jail from many Democrat admirers, and the clothes he wore to his first hearing sold out nationwide within days. There is a musical in San Francisco theaters now about his political views and actions. Check out this fascinating article about this fascinating musical here. I particularly noticed this fascinating quote from the article, from an interview with a woman who had just seen the show in the theater:
"It's not that I believe in violence against the individual," Kathleen Koomen said. "But I do believe that a state that monopolizes violence begets violence, and I think Luigi represents that."
Well, OK. If you’re looking for intelligent, thoughtful commentary on, well, anything – the crowd that’s attracted to this sort of thing may not be the best place to look. But my goodness. She says that she doesn’t believe in “violence against the individual” – which I think means that she feels like she should pretend that she doesn’t approve of shooting unarmed people in cold blood, even people she doesn’t like. Very compassionate of her. But then she goes from stupid to even more stupid:
"But I do believe that a state that monopolizes violence begets violence, and I think Luigi represents that." So she thinks that a state that monopolizes violence begets violence? Where did she come up with that? Surely she heard it somewhere, and it sounded cool and revolutionary to her. Or something. But did she consider the alternative? What happens when a state does NOT monopolize violence? How are things going in Mexico these days? The first job of any government is to monopolize violence, to prevent everything from petty crime to organized crime to vigilantism.
It’s not clear to me what she thinks Luigi represents. Maybe his murdering of Thompson was the predictable result of the government’s efforts to prevent violence? Or something? Or maybe it's an admirable example of the state NOT monopolizing violence, thus allowing virtuous murderers to kill people that leftists disapprove of? Or maybe, let’s see here, maybe Luigi cowardly shooting an unarmed man in the back demonstrates the evil of state monopolized violence, for example, ICE agents deporting illegal immigrants?
Man, I don’t know. It all sounds crazy to me. But I think that she believes in some of that, at least. And it’s all crazy.
I wonder what percentage of Luigi’s fans, and fans of “Luigi the Musical,” are Democrats? I’m going to guess over 90%. Maybe over 95%?
Another way to think about it: I wonder what percentage of Democrat voters are sympathetic to Luigi? I don’t know. But it’s a lot.
The Democrat Party has become a regional party – they get very few votes outside of urban areas. How can they appeal to their former base (union workers and their families, lower-middle-class whites, etc)? How can they expect the support of the average American when the Democrat Party looks, well, crazy? I mean, absolutely bonkers.
"It's not that I believe in violence against the individual," Kathleen Koomen said. "But I do believe that a state that monopolizes violence begets violence, and I think Luigi represents that."
OK. Take that into a PTA meeting. Or onto a factory floor. Or into a trailer park. Or, really, try taking that anywhere other than a faculty lounge.
Democrats are scaring people. They sound violent. They act violent. They destroy heretics. These people are scary.
Trump would have had no chance in a Republican primary unless people were scared. Scott Walker is nice. And nice doesn’t help against violent ideologues. Democrats created Trump, and they created all the Republican push-back that we're seeing. When they allow their crazies to run unrestrained and with no criticism from Democrat leadership, even the chronically passive Republican party will start to push back.
Democrat leadership needs to get its crazies under control. They may think that those crazies can propel them to power. But Robespierre suggests that they reconsider that strategy.

These posts rationally examining what mistakes the Democratic Party is making and what they need to do better are disturbing. These are not people I want to see better equip themselves to win elections and dominate my country. Yes, they are crazymaking, but if they were fit for power they would make better use of it. Not only did they create Trump in the particular, giving him YUGE free donations of air time in 2016 with the intent to nominate the most unelectable GOP candidate by their reckoning, but then they ran a Steal so obvious it would take a "journalist" to miss it in 2020 and turned 2024 into a lawfare circus complete with kangaroo courts and clown prosecutors.
I don't think they are susceptible to your assistance, but the chance is just too risky.

“Democrats need to get their crazies under control”
Here’s a thought: What if they already have?

Tbh it's kind of weird how the political aspect of this murder/assassination has gotten no traction in the MSM.

That's a good point.
I think it's because the mainstream media doesn't see Luigi's politics, sorry of like a fish doesn't notice water.
Luigi doesn't have political views, he's simply a sensible person. From their perspective.
I don't know. It's also possible that the mainstream media recognizes that Luigi's actions, and their political motivations, could hurt Democrats if they were publicized. So they're dutifully covering them up.
Maybe a combination of those two?
Not sure. Good point, though.
