Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
In a recent interview, Secretary Rubio responded to the reported demand by Zelensky in the developing peace negotiations. Rubio said (emphasis mine):
“I haven’t heard him [Zelensky] say that, so if he’s out there saying that, I don’t think that’s a realistic demand to have,” Rubio continued. “We need less nuclear-armed countries, not more — nor do I think that solves their problem as they view it. I think he has a fundamental challenge and that’s okay; how do you reach an end to the conflict that’s enduring and that’s going to be in place and that’s not all of a sudden going to lead to a new war in a year or two years or three years? That’s the kind of thing that’s going to have to be talked about in any negotiation. But I don’t think nuclear weapons are the answer to that.”
The proper way to express this is: "We need fewer nuclear-armed countries, not more..."
Sheesh! Obviously Marco Rubio is not fit to be Secretary of State and (I have this on good authority) may have even sold his soul to Donald Trump.

Were Ukraine still Nuclear Armed, as they were in the early 1990s, there would be no present war. That observation is more cogent than a trivial grammatical slip up.

My only regret is that I have but one lol to give.

Wasn't every James Bond movie in the 1990's a scramble to stop an ex-soviet General from selling a hydrogen bomb to smersh/blofeld/billgates/narcotraficantes?
Yeah, let's "set the conditions" for doing that in real life. That'll end well.

Ukraine was NEVER "Nuclear Armed". It merely ended up with Soviet nuclear missiles and supporting infrastructure on its newly formalized territory, over which it had neither the ability nor, importantly, the willingness to gain operational control. Hence the process that led to the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.
It's really amazing that, after more than 30 years, the "Ukraine shoulda kept its nukes" talking point won't die.

If Trump's policy is to make the world safe for nuclear intimidation, then any country that doesn't want to be forcibly made part of somebody else's "sphere of influence" will need to do what it can to get its own nukes in one fashion or another.
If Rubio is against that, he would best do that by resigning and opposing Trump's policy on Ukraine. He won't do that, though, because he has sold his soul to Trump.
Yesterday I watched an interview with a Ukrainian who says he was an advisor to Zelensky during Trump's first term and that he was in the same room with Trump at some meetings (I'm not sure which, and can't find the video now) . He says that what Trump says about these meetings afterwards bears little relation to anything said during the meeting, but that one can have normal conversations with people like Rubio and afterwards agree on what they both discussed.
So there is that much. But it's going to cost Rubio a lot for him to get his soul back.
