So-called "far-right winger" in Britain, Tommy Robinson has now apparently fled the UK after a conservative-themed rally led to his arrest. I'm not doing a full write-up of this, but the basic story I believe is worth sharing and discussing.
(This is a story and a piece of news that I believe warrants attention in the USA. A BBC report here.)
It gets to critical issues like free speech, the right to petition the government, the rule of law, the legacy of one's cultural inheritance, and defense against an aggressively hostile police state. For Americans, it might be educational to follow the case of the Brit Tommy Robinson, who has apparently become a fugitive from the British state for essentially being considered too "far-right wing" and too unapologetically British. The logic in going after him from the British police point of view is that he "disturbs the peace." To clarify this, to "disturb the peace" in his case frequently means doing or saying something that might antagonize the Islamists that have become a growing percentage of the population in England. As a result, the path of least resistance appears to be for the British state to go after Tommy Robinson. If the state is successful he will be either intimidated into silence, bankrupted, put into prison, or the jackpot of all of the above.
Robinson has been arrested multiple times in the UK. At least once for attempting to expose the so-called "Muslim rape gangs" that reportedly plagued sections of England. This time, initial reports claim he was arrested under the Terrorism Act in the UK immediately following a large pro-British and counter-pro-Hamas demonstration as reported by a left-leaning website here. Robinson's opponents in the UK have called for his imprisonment for some time. This recent demonstration that triggered Robinson's now outlaw, fugitive-on-the-run status was named the "March for Freedom" protest and had ~100,000 attendees. The protest was reportedly peaceful with lots of Union Jacks waving, according to a conservative personality who attended.
For full disclosure I am not an expert on Tommy Robinson nor am I an expert on the ins and outs of the dynamics going on in England. I am an American viewing this from afar. But an interested viewer. Perhaps there are Ricochet members who can and add some insights or color to this issue. I'm open to input.

I have heard that Robinson played an important role in exposing those rape gangs, by refusing to shut up as the authorities would have preferred.
Jordan Peterson recently interviewed him. Audio available on Spotify. It's on my to-listen list.
I have known Americans who want Geert Wilders to be imprisoned for daring to call for a radical reduction in Muslim immigration to the Netherlands. They aren't very fond of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, either.

It is difficult to keep track of Tommy Robinson's run-ins with the courts. Based on this Telegraph article, as best I can make sense of the current situation:
At the moment, the police are saying that the latest froufaroo has nothing to do with the Saturday demonstration/movie episode, and that the police are making "further inquiries" over that matter.

Thanks for the link. I'll listen to the JP interview. Apparently TR was also previously arrested in Canada w/o charges.
I had the chance to see Ayaan Hirshi Ali speak live in a smaller room setting at a second tier University in the USA. She came across the same in person as she does on tv. I found her to be charming and amiable live. The general University faculty response I would describe as chilly and subdued. Virtually no questions or interactions from the faculty. The only questions came from people outside the Uni who knew of her. Some credit should be given to the University Administrator who invited her. He made some boiler plate statements about free speech and academic pursuit of knowledge.
Ayaan is definitely not liked or welcome on the political left in the USA, especially the intellectual left. It's just more of a passive-aggressive thing. Not openly hostile like others, perhaps Wilders in that category. The problem they seem to have with Ayaan is that they can't articulate it. The gripes I heard from critics at the University in post speech conversation were things like "well, I don't like her wording, it's problematic", or that "she might be used by the right". I did not hear any full on attacks. Ayaan sorta presents a problem for the left since on paper she is an identity politics all-star. She's a BIPAC, educated feminist, immigrant, fled an arranged marriage (patriarchy), self-made woman who just so happens to not have the correct views.
The imprisonment issue of opponents I think has gone beyond hyperbole or emotional excess. More evidence points to a growing number of people on the left who literally want to imprison or prosecute opposition.

My understanding is that Tommy was arrested (this time) under Terrorism Act of 2000, wherein you can be stopped at any port of entry, Channel Tunnel, airport, ferry, etc., and be remanded without cause. And if you refuse to hand over any and all electronics, you are guilty of Terrorism Act 2000.
Here's Ezra Levant with some details of the Terrorism Act and also Tommy's most recent arrect.
I have followed Tommy off and on for years; a previous commenter noted that my man would not shut up about the rape gangs (NOT "so-called" rape gangs) operating all over the UK. Tommy's attention was drawn to the issue when he had a cousin who was "groomed", addicted to drugs, etc, and no one would do anything about it.
The whole issue blew up about 15 years ago (that's a guess); many inquiries by the police, much fault found, many editorials written about lessons learned, blah blah blah. And nothing changed. The gangs have continued operating with impunity.
Mark Steyn has interviewed several of the victims of these rape gangs, and the stories are horrific. And the lack of justice chilling.
Tommy had some legal trouble and was arrested in his recent trip to Canada, which leads me to believe he is not safe in the UK or any Commonwealth country.
And to future commenters: do not bore me with Tommy's sketchy past. He has been lawfared into bankruptcy and nearly killed in prison because he has called attention to issues the UK government would rather not have to answer to.
And as Tommy himself has said, it was never going to be a prim and proper school marm who would have what it takes to go through what he has gone through. Better a football hooligan.

I heard the recent interview with Jordan Peterson, it was chilling. We are so doomed. This man is one who is standing tall and taking the bullets for us on this issue; you hear him speak and you can’t believe we are not immediately all up in arms with him.
I was glad to hear him with Dr. Peterson, I had been wondering what was happening with him since last we heard from him eight or ten years ago. He seems like one of the good ones; he needs our help and support.
