Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Yes, some of his films are enjoyable. Heck, I even have a few of them. Yes, he has been a box office draw for decades. But like many actors who apparently assume that they are more intelligent than their audience and feel the need to pontificate on politics or science or ethics, Mr. Ford quickly displays his ignorance. In a recent speech delivered at the Field Museum in Chicago, Ford decided to share his profound thoughts on Donald Trump.
From The Guardian (emphasis mine)
Harrison Ford has said that Donald Trump’s assault upon measures to address the climate crisis “scares the sh*t out of me” and makes the US president among the worst criminals in history.
Actually, The Guardian is already playing fast and loose with what Ford actually said. One has to read the entire article to see what Ford’s actual verbatim quote is.
The legendary Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor, who is 83, added: “It’s unbelievable. I don’t know of a greater criminal in history.”
More on that assertion later. Also from the article:
In a blistering attack upon the president, Ford told the Guardian that Trump “doesn’t have any policies, he has whims. It scares the [REDACTED] out of me. The ignorance, the hubris, the lies, the perfidy. [Trump] knows better, but he’s an instrument of the status quo and he’s making money, hand over fist, while the world goes to hell in a handbasket.”
Never mind that Ford apparently wasn’t paying attention to many of the Trump campaign’s messages and policy positions prior that propelled him to a popular vote and Electoral College victory – i.e., closing down the border, deporting millions of illegal aliens especially the most dangerous border crossers engaged in drug and sex trafficking, murder, rape, extortion and any number of other heinous crimes; cutting down the size of the bureaucracy by eliminating wasteful spending, regulations, and graft; stimulating the economy; restoring America’s energy dominance; rebuilding the military; bringing an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas; and on and on.
If Harrison Ford were honest, he would have said he disagreed with Trump’s policy positions. Not that he doesn’t have policies. It’s okay to disagree with the Trump administration’s policies, but when you claim that there are none, you sound like a moron.
Of course, Ford’s big beef is that Trump, his cabinet, and those in his administration aren’t true believers in the Climate Crisis hoax (never referred to anymore as Anthropogenic Global Warming), the pseudoscience/religion and socialist wealth redistribution scam with a plethora (yes, a plethora) of catastrophic predictions for specific dates that have come and gone and never materialized — and in fact, have shown that in many cases that the opposite is happening: the Antarctic ice is thickening, the Arctic ice cap hasn’t melted, the polar bear population is thriving, and the sea levels haven’t risen; again, on and on. Never mind that wind turbines kill countless birds and wind turbines in coastal waters kill whales. And ignore that a warmer planet will actually benefit humanity and other life on the planet with extended growing seasons for agriculture, and fewer cold and flu seasons.
But when Ford says, “I don’t know of a greater criminal in history,” he cranks his idiocy up to 11. Really Harrison? Really? You don’t know of a greater criminal in history? Take a moment and think hard. You can do it.
Perhaps Mr. Ford only reads scripts handed to him and not those old-fashioned things called books. He did use the word ‘perfidy,’ so I could be wrong; he at least consults a thesaurus before speaking publicly. One would hope that Ford is not so abysmally ignorant that he believes that Trump is a greater criminal than, say, Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, Che Guevara, Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and his SS (apparently once a favorite of a Democrat Maine senate candidate), Josef Mengele, Sadam Hussein, or Idi Amin...to name just a few that come to mind. All who were active in the twentieth century (Hussein even managed to survive into the first few years of the twenty-first).
Or perhaps Ford is really conniving, knows he is lying, and wants to embolden an unhinged person to take matters into their own hands to eliminate this greatest criminal in history. Perhaps Ford was upset that Trump wasn’t assassinated when he turned his head at the last second in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Come on, Harrison, don’t chicken out now. You consider Donald Trump the greatest criminal in history for what he is purportedly doing to the planet, and you clearly expressed this knowing full well that Trump was almost assassinated twice. Or are you really that reckless? Or are you really that stupid? But consider your response carefully, Harrison, because neither speaks well of you.

It's long been popularly rumored that Ford is an avid pot smoker. That stuff rots your brain.
But I'll never stop enjoying Han Solo, Indiana, Rick Decker, Jack Ryan, John Book, and so many others. They are not Ford. Hollywood is full of idiots and creeps. But they have given up some great stories.

Maintaining an air of mystery is to their advantage. Running one's mouth detracts from that.

He's one of my favorite actors. I make it a point to try to avoid learning about the political leanings of my favorite performers.
I've thought for a long time that it would be fun to have a podcast that mocks the opinions-of-actors theme by exclusively interviewing the plumbers, gardeners, maids, etc., of famous actors for their opinions on serious issues.

No doubt in my mind that Jorge has a more sensible opinion on energy than Streisand because he knows how much it costs, and she doesn't care.
