Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
This is a little ode I wrote to commemorate my 73rd birthday on August 16. Just taking my doggerel for a walk. Fellow geezers may perhaps find something familiar herein.
Song of My Seventies
I wanted to sleep
But I've got to go pee
Isn't that always the way with me?
I was having a wonderful
Dream or three
But always and forever
I've got to go pee
The pillow was just
Where I wanted it to be
My leg was positioned
For the peace of my knee.
A cat was well balanced
On top of me
But there is nothing of comfort
I've got to go pee
I've gotten adjusted
In the chair, pain free
Things all lit up and booted
Even damned Adobe
The stuff on the screen is
Making sense to me
But nothing gets done 'cause
I've got to go pee
The day is perfection
Filled the feeders, all three.
There's a comfy camp chair
Under the beech tree
Chipmunks and finches
Would come closer to see
But it doesn't last long because
I have to go pee.
The hummingbird snorkels
Then comes over to see
In my half open window
Gnats for protein might be.
He gives me the stink eye
And decides to flee
I had to disturb him
I've got to go pee
The cat is precision
When sitting on me.
A treat from the bag
Is expected of me.
She gives me the slow blink
Until she gets three.
It could go on forever
But I have to go pee.
The words roll by
Very satisfyingly.
The stuff that I'm editing
Is just as it should be.
I've got a lot done in
An hour or three
But a screeching halt comes
'Cause I've got to go pee
I hate being in crowds
When I was six foot three
I stood out like a lighthouse
Or at least a tall tree.
I always took the aisle seat
So I didn't crush my knee
Now it's so I don't crush you
When I have to go pee.
It's an excellent car trip
Things are where they should be.
Please mute the GPS
The road's familiar to me.
I don't need nag-o-matic
I got this, count on me
But the moment I stand up
I've got to go pee
If you call, I'll be handy
Wherever I be
The phone's in a pocket
Long distance is free.
But you'll hear water running
Somewhere behind me
Because always and forever
I've got to go pee
Now, don't misunderstand me.
I'm grateful to be
In a house with three bathrooms
Convenient to me.
My kidneys still function
at 73
But always and forever
I've got to go pee

I got to pee, so I sympathize with thee,
My nightly trips to John comes in threes…
