Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
I just read a remarkable editorial on CNN's website. It discusses the problems in Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. It mentions India, China, Pakistan, Russia, and other concerns. I'm not sure why they labeled this an opinion piece - it reads like everything else on the CNN website - it's refreshingly open about it's support of Democrats. Regardless, despite my expectations, this last paragraph surprised me a bit:
The arrival of 2024 does not mean we need to dig fallout shelters in the backyard or move to southern Argentina. But it does leave the world in a place more precarious than we have seen in decades. The good news is the very worst did not happen this year, so it might not in the next, or ever.
Ok. Let's break that down, one sentence at a time, as we attempt to figure out what CNN is trying to say here:
The arrival of 2024 does not mean we need to dig fallout shelters in the backyard or move to southern Argentina.
Translation: "Ha ha! Those right wing whacko conspiracy theorists are so absurd! Us educated types understand that despite some concerning recent events, everything really is a-ok, as long as we have a Democrat in the White House! Ha Ha!
But it does leave the world in a place more precarious than we have seen in decades.
Translation: I mean, sure, the Biden Administration has experienced the occasional setback. And sure, things could be better.
The good news is the very worst did not happen this year, so it might not in the next, or ever.
Translation: Let's all bear in mind that, while the Biden Presidency has been a difficult time for, um, well, the whole freakin' world - still - let's all bear in mind that things could possibly have been worse, somehow. That may not sound like high praise. But remember, everything really is a-ok, as long as we have a Democrat in the White House! Ha Ha!
That's the best that Biden's representatives at CNN could do. "The good news is the very worst did not happen this year".
There's a campaign slogan for you.
CNN, the FBI, the CDC, The New York Times, our educational establishment, our entertainment industry, Black Lives Matter and other rent-a-mobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and lots and lots of other people you've never heard of have their work cut out for them in this next election. It was difficult last time. It will be more difficult this time.
President Biden may be vacationing this week. But I assure you - they're not.
As CNN publicly acknowledges in this editorial, they have a lot of work to do.

Back in the 80s there was a book called “In Search of Excellence” by a former McKinsey consultant. It profiled several organizations delivering what the author thought was excellent service to customers. He was on a speaking tour pumping the book and its conclusions and one stop was a stodgy old S&P 500 company. He was haranguing them for their awful service and someone in the audience had heard enough and rose up to shout “We’re no worse than anybody else!”
And therein lies the problem.
Apparently CNN never read the book or heard the story.

Biden-Not as bad as he could have been!

Worse would be Commie La Harris as president.

Wouldn't matter - she'd do all the same things. Just like any other Democrat.

But admit. Put a D by their name and that selling point would be enough for half of America. That is why fomenting hatred of our side is their favorite campaign strategy.
