The above link is to a Patriot Post detailing the money made by the family (and other organizations) that runs Wreaths Across America. It also reviews the past issues the Wounded Warrior Project encountered, but has since rectified. It is difficult to know whom to trust.
Overall, however, how many so-called charities have started out with good intentions, but end up preying on the goodwill of this very prosperous population? Black Lives Matter comes to mind. The Red Cross. Goodwill Industries. Catholic Charities, the Clinton Foundation. Once the powers that be in those organizations recognize the vast amounts of money that are available, with little oversight except their own, does it become too easy to slip a little off the top, then a little more, then a little more?
I have used Charity Navigator occasionally, but I need to use it more often. I have adjusted my charitable giving recently after researching some of our charities. Others, well, I just want to believe they are doing the right thing.

That may be so. Maybe just a little spark of concern for others that quickly died under mountains of cash.

Americans are very generous and that attracts scammers from around the globe. It is the #1 reason I don't give more money to charity. At least there are few I can trust.

I rarely give to charities unless I have some personal connection with the recipient because I've seen so much money go astray. I like charities where I can designate the gift for a certain person and then get updates from the recipient. I never give to political causes, even causes I strongly support because I have no idea if the donation will actually advance the cause.
I'm not against giving generously, but I think you should actually know where your money goes in order to be a good steward of it.

I have to underline the Doc here. I believe BLM was totally rotten from the get.
But as to the point of the post, yes charities need to be watched. Even small social organizations. My neighbor belonged to a women's boating group and the treasury stole all the money. So petty.
