Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
There are times when being a police officer is a good thing. There are times when it is not.
I, just as many police officers do have some good stories, and some stories that are grim. They all come back from time to time in the quiet moments. I'm what I call a cynical realist. A cynical realist understands that human nature has not changed much since Abel and Cain.
When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with 10 Commandments some called or still call God a tyrant. There is a paradox here:
The Federal Register is a daily journal of federal government activity that includes presidential documents, proposed and final rules, and public notices. The number of pages in the Federal Register varies depending on the year. In 2021, a total of 74,532 pages were added to the Federal Register. The number of pages in the current issue is 179, which includes 85 documents from 42 agencies. The number of pages in the Federal Register can also vary depending on the issue. For example, one issue contained sixteen pages.
Whole forests have been harvested for the Federal Register.
During my time as a police officer, we had a motorcyclist who chose Friday nights to induce police officers to chase him in high-speed pursuits. One night, I dropped out of the pursuit. The sound of a siren bounces off buildings. Multiple police cars do not improve the confusion that causes for pedestrians or drivers.
I parked my car on a residential street and decided to become a spectator. I saw someone walking towards me holding a motorcycle helmet. His helmet and clothing matched the description of our frequent flyer.
My first question was where is your bike? He said it crapped out and he was going to walk home. I asked for his driver's license. I asked him if this was his current address on his license. He said it was. He was walking in the wrong direction to get home. He didn't know that his bike was found dumped on someone's front lawn.
I handcuffed him and searched his pockets and found a key in his front pocket. We made the drive back to the bike that was found. I placed the key into the ignition, turned it and the bike started right up.
I looked at him and said, 'Well, imagine that.' Sometimes, it's very good to be a police officer.

He had a lot of interesting experiences. Working the streets will do that.
