Hey, everyone.

A retired U.S. Senator from Arizona, Jon Kyl, announced recently that he is retiring from public life because of a dementia diagnosis. For those unfamiliar with Mr. Kyl, he is one of the last of a breed. A true public servant who had definitely strong views, but always put the needs of his constituents first. He took the time to become expert on issues ranging from space-based missile defenses to nuclear testing to arcane but important water rights issues. He rose to become the Republican Whip in the Senate, all the while maintaining a professional and personal relationship with Democrats such as Diane Feinstein, because he was focused on results rather than political points.

Let’s give him and his family our best wishes.

How very sad! He was a great man. I admired his criticizing legislators for spending more time on fundraising for their campaigns than on governing.

Why should dementia stop anyone from serving? Something doesn't add up here.

Sad to hear of this. He's a good man who was a fine U.S. Senator.
