Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
If you are interested in an Israeli citizen’s view on the war in Israel, a man who is a legitimate journalist and an IDF reservist, I highly recommend that you listen to the podcast, “Call Me Back” led by Dan Senor, where he has been interviewing Haviv Rettig Gur. They offer updates on conditions in Israel.
In his weekly discussion with Gur, they share opinions you often won’t hear in the mainstream media. Gur often expresses an unconventional attitude about events in Israel, and it’s so refreshing to hear a different point of view. I must admit, however, that I was shocked (as was Dan Senor) at Gur’s take on the international opinion on Israel. I also celebrated his belief.
Some people are tracking the world’s opinion carefully, worried that Israel will lose its commitment to the war when others are critical of them for their determination to be victorious, as they pummel Hamas into submission, and for the number of civilians who may be killed during these efforts. The “experts” believe the Israeli strategies will work against them and make the war longer and more difficult, and that Israel may lose.
Gur shared a very different opinion. He believes that negative world opinion will inspire the Israelis, who are determined to let nothing or no one stop them in their efforts toward victory. Every judgment inspires them. Every angry assessment motivates them. In the past, Israel may have paid attention to these complaints and calls for cease-fires and compliance. But not this time.
Israel is resolute and they will fight until Hamas is decimated and defeated.
Israel will be victorious.

Israel is never going to get "the world" on its side. Notice how the UN General Assembly never fails to "condemn" Israel no matter the subject under discussion. Israel certainly realizes this, so they must just go ahead and do what is right morally, which in this instance is obliterate Hamas.

In fact, Israel has more actions from the UN than all the other countries put together. You are so right, Jim. My hope is that Mr. Gur's counterintuitive assessment is spot on.

I sure hope Haviv Gur is right on this. The overall pattern so far in its history is that Israel only fights off enemies enough to drive them back over the border, letting them recoup their losses and rebuild over time to fight anew and refreshed. I take that as the default position until I see something different, and so far Netanyahu has kept up the pressure without giving in to the Israeli weak stomach for total victory.
I was disturbed to hear talk about swapping the hostages for captured Hamas terrorists. I figured all along that the hostages would present the biggest problem for the Israeli psyche. But so far Netanyahu has turned the hostage situation around into leverage for Israel's side, declaring that he will never stop the attack until they are released. That is a genuine reversal of Israeli policy. I hope it sticks.............

China controls more votes in the UN than any other nation.
