I just got some news I have been dreading. Peter Schickele, Professor of Musical Pathology at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople, discoverer of PDQ Bach, radio host and brilliant composer, has passed on.
I have loved his work for many years, playing his first two albums on college radio in 1972. I attended many of his concerts, including three at the Kennedy Center where the Washington Choral Society sang "The Seasonings" while wearing bathrobes and "The 1712 Overture" featured a real cannon that produced a Bang flag.
His was a fine kind of humor, that deepened your understanding of music while making you laugh. Ave atque vale

Oh dear... So many musical greats have been leaving us.
I think I saw him perform three times sometime around 1974-1979.

My fave: "Please, Kind Sir" from "The Art of the Ground Round":
My buds and I used to sing this in high school. Checking... yeah the album "The Intimate PDQ Bach" had just been released.

Rest in peace. "Oh, my name is Oedipus Tex. You may have heard of my brother Rex!"

Honestly, I didn't realize he was still alive. You've sent me looking for a favorite, but time is short (lunch break at work) so I'll link these. The Beethoven and Mozart ones are brilliant. Heck, everything of his I ever heard was/is brilliant. RIP.
