Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
How does the Church bless "couples in irregular situations" without expressly condoning the sexual activity that forms the basis of the "irregular" union? This is de facto gay marriage (and who knows what else!) and endorsement of illicit sex in general. I always suspected this was his agenda—the full secular lefty Narrative replacing all Christian doctrine but I am surprised by the brazen speed of it.
George Carlin joked about the Church dropping the requirement to eschew meat on Fridays: Fine, but what about the guys in hell on a meat rap? When more substantive long-time moral precepts are abandoned, then is anything permanent or true, or is it all about conforming to the mores of the moment? Are all those who over the last 2,000 years confessed sins of various kinds of sexual misbehavior and indiscretions just suckers for seeking absolution for that which was not a sin after all?
There is a reason why the mainline Protestant denominations are drying up—why go to church just to affirm whatever is currently in the New York Times op-ed section? Francis apparently wants all of Christendom on that path. Justification by Faith, Faith & Works, political correctness alone.

The old joke when something seemed to be self-evident: "Is the Pope Catholic?" The correct answer would now seem to be "No".

"Is the Pope Communist?"
This kind of pandering had me leave right around the second Ecumenical Council. After being told by spiritually rabid nuns in the sixties that certain things were worthy of eternal condemnation ( or eternal deprivation of ‘heaven’ in Purgatory or Limbo) and then have them summarily removed by the big boys in the Vatican was astonishing to a 14 year-old who’d studied Latin and performed altar boy duties.
Then after my first Guitar Mass, I was out.
Perhaps the Pontiff saw the leaked pictures of the glorious romance and act of love exhibited in the Senate Chambers at our nations Capitol, and saw how two people in “irregular situations” could be in genuine love and was moved to act?
