Yale Hunger Strike Ends: World Despairs

I remember real hunger strikers. They weren't always on my side of the aisle, but they were in it for the long haul, and often to the bitter end. Deluded, or even evil, as I sometimes thought they were, I respected their choice and their dedication to see things through. These morons with their performative, virtue-signaling nonsense aren't fit to wipe their shoes.

A hunger strike to make a single person in power do one thing (pardon a prisoner, deny approval to a development, etc) is a risky but focused strategy. Demanding that peace in another part of the world be effected by college administrators who do not even have control over university assets is dumb. In effect, the demand was that the college leadership join them in making an ineffectual, self-regarding gesture or else endure the spectacle of my personal inconvenience--and on my birthday, no less!

Very true. It's merely another tantrum worthy of my two-year old niece, who doesn't really care about the details: She just knows that she wants her own way, and she wants it now.

We're probably approaching the point where someone says, "Oh, feh, just wait a couple of years. Once they get out into the real world and have to get a real job, they'll get some sense knocked into them soon enough." Except it hasn't really worked that way for quite some time, and I don't think people say that much, anymore.

Let's hope that recent announcements by some prestigious law firms and a couple of corporations that they're no longer interested in hiring such foolish and self-absorbed dolts are the start of a major course correction. Which, especially as it applies to many storied academic institutions, is what's needed.

That's my hope--that the law firms make choices of sensible and mature human beings. Not these dolts.
