First, mow a little so when the parade comes by, folks have a nice place to sit and watch.

Second, watch the parade. My tiny little town draws from other nearby towns for our parade, with three high school bands, twirlers, a trolley for veterans to ride, hot rods that have been lovingly prepared for today, and an Air Force flyover.

Third, treat a bunch of friends to brunch at this amazing little one-woman kitchen on Main Street. Pulled pork, mac 'n' cheese, slaw and salt potatoes.

Fourth, watch the fireworks. All year, people have been dropping their change into red cans at checkout counters, and that gives the Lions Club about $30K to spend on fireworks. People come 50 miles from Buffalo and Rochester to watch.

Finally, and best of all, I will log into my Social Security account (fighting through layers of authentication and permissions) and zero out the amount I'm having withheld for income tax. I know I will probably owe something, but I'll just pay cash next April. Huzzah!

Have a wonderful holiday!

We're having brats and onion rings for dinner. I have both the US and Confederate battle flag flying out front. After all, it is Independence Day . . .
