Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Welcome to 2026, where the watchword is "affordability." Dems have been haranguing us for weeks about the high cost of living. They have finally taken the first concrete steps to make life here in NJ & NY more affordable. Beginning in 2026, the gasoline tax here in NJ goes up, as do EZ tolls. The gas tax increases by 4.2 cents, bringing the state's per-gallon levy to 49.1 cents for gas and 56.1 cents for diesel. It had already been raised by 2.5 cents in 2025 and was scheduled to increase by 2 cents in 2026 — but when it comes to affordability, more is better...right?
Drivers will also get hit with higher tolls on the NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway. There will also be increases at the Delaware River crossings and Port Authority crossings into NYC. But hey...that's OK because you should be using mass transit anyway. To encourage that, NY transit fares already went up 15% in July with automatic 3% increases annually, with no end date. LIRR weekly and monthly tickets went up 4.5% while one-way fares increased by up to 8%. MTA fares go up as well. The base fare for subways and the "free" buses increased to $3.00.
I'm sure they are just getting warmed up and will soon be doing much, much more to make life more affordable here in the NY Metro area. And if they gain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, they can bring this kind of positive change to the rest of the country.

Trump should pardon Maduro if he runs for mayor of New York City. He'd likely be an improvement over Mamdummy . . .

New York elected Mamdami. The have earned a thorough Zohranning. No matter how badly he rules, I say no parole for New York City.

It's amazing how they are so busy hammering Trump on affordability, that they don't see their own actions. Bizarre!

Make things more expensive and then hand out large subsidies that grows the government and show that they care even though they're the ones who made things more expensive. Wash, rinse and repeat. Always repeat. It's brilliant in its' own perverted way.
