Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
When Ron DeSantis was asked who was the greatest President of the United States, he said Calvin Coolidge. If Don Trump had shown up at a debate, he probably would have wanted to answer, "Donald Trump". And Trump did do some great things as President. (He also gave a whole lot of power to Anthony Fauci along with a medal, so there's that.)
But I like DeSantis' answer. Along with being a good President, he was also a good man. There's something to be said for that. And he knew what it took to accomplish great things. Here's what Coolidge said it took to make significant achievements:
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
If I had a chance to vote for Zombie Calvin Coolidge in November, you can bet I would.

I love that quote. He was a great, wise man.

Lincoln is often considered the greatest president, because he freed the slaves and defeated the Southern Insurrection. If Trump is able to get elected and defeat the ongoing Intelligence Community Insurrection, then he will become our greatest president, because he will have led to the defeat of our our most powerful enemy and greatest threat. Those are some big "ifs".

I might agree with that. There were some good ones early on, of course. But over the last 150 years or so, he's almost certainly right, I think.
Somewhere I read a reference to Cal as the last of the 19th Century presidents. The progressive era had mostly ruined things by then. Twain’s rantings about TR are humorous now. Alas…

I’d like to think I would have voted for Coolidge and I’d liked to have been able to vote for DeSantis.
