I don't worry too much about global warming, for a few reasons. First of all, humans do better with warmer weather, when crops grow well. Secondly, there's not much we can do about sun spots or volcanic activity, etc., so I'm not sure how we're supposed to control this stuff. But most importantly, because we're due for another ice age. Very soon. It's been 12,000 years or so since the last one ended, which means it's likely that another ice age is drawing near. And remember, ice ages can last 70,000-100,000 years. So global warming is likely to sound pretty good to us, pretty soon.

Just trying to educate myself, I watched an interesting video on YouTube: "Forget Global Warming ... A Terrible Ice Age Awaits Us!" (link below). Despite the scary clickbait title, it was fascinating. It discussed the factors at play in climatic shifts over the past few million years, including the output of the sun, ocean currents, volcanic activity, asteroid impacts, plate tectonics, variation in the earth's orbit and axis, changes in the earth's magnetic field, and all sorts of other stuff. It then pointed out that we really don't understand what exactly triggers ice ages, but that it appears to be a combination of factors, which are poorly understood. So when will the next ice age be? We really don't know.

When I finished the video, I noticed a sort of warning label just below it. It was a statement from the UN - see if you can read it in my screenshot below:

The statement highlighted in blue reads (emphasis mine):

Climate change: United Nations - Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas.

OK. So the 20-minute video I just watched was a waste of time? Scientists are still studying what leads to sudden changes in climate, and still don't understand it. But the UN has it all figured out?

I went to Wikipedia to get a definition of the United Nations. This is what it showed:

The United Nations (UN) is the global intergovernmental organization established by the signing of the UN Charter on 26 June 1945 with the stated purpose of maintaining international peace and security, to develop friendly relations among states, to promote international cooperation, and to serve as a centre for harmonizing the actions of states in achieving those goals.

That sounds like a political organization.

So why does YouTube give the last word on scientific inquiries to a political organization? Why would they do that? I just watched a video on how to replace a certain brand of door knob (YouTube is an amazing resource). There was no warning statement from the UN on that video. Why not?

And why does that political organization feel the need to tell us that there is no room for debate in matters of science - that they understand, well, the whole world? How does the UN choose the topics in which they have the final say? Who exactly comes up with their declarations on these topics?

Read those questions from the past two paragraphs again. The answers are chilling.

So some guy makes a video about ice ages. I watch that video, sitting on my couch. And then the UN gets involved.

Wow.

There is a reason that Donald Trump is so popular right now.

*********

If you're interested, check out the video below. As I said, I learned a lot. Although we clearly have a lot left to learn.

Well, not those of us at the UN - they've got it figured out. But the rest of us - we have a lot left to learn:

There is a reason people vacation in St. Thomas and not Greenland. If I only could figure out what it was...

It gets even better, when you click on the UN infolink, and find yourself directed to the full UN site on the subject of climate change. There's also a "Why am I seeing this?" (my thoughts exactly) link, which throws out the following:

When you search or watch videos related to topics prone to misinformation, such as the moon landing, you may see an information panel at the top of your search results or under a video you're watching.

Information panels show info, sourced from independent, third-party partners, to give more context on a topic. If you want to learn more, the panels link to the third-party partner’s website.

These information panels will show regardless of what opinions or perspectives are expressed in the video. You have the option to dismiss the information panel by selecting Don’t show this again from the panel’s menu. Once selected, you will no longer see the information panel for that topic.

Information panels may not be available in all countries/regions and languages. We're working to bring information panels to more countries/regions.

The usual stuff, post COVID, in which YouTube is still deciding who's "an independent third-party, " who's "truthful," and is aggrandizing unto itself the only possible representation of "The Truth." And yes, I believe they are saying the video is BS because They. Know. Better.

Although I'm still perplexed by the opening paragraph, and whether or not YouTube is implying that the moon landing may have been a hoax...

I think they're just choosing the most absurd conspiracy theory they can think of, to make those who question things like global warming and COVID policies sound absurd as well.

    ...or am I too cynical?

Don't blame the UN for this one, or at least don't blame them first. The UN is what it is, and they lie. But the climate propaganda on YouTube is from Google. They lie too. Like all big lies, the climate lie requires constant reinforcement.

YT adds that little "Climate Change" nag-blurb to every video that remotely touches on weather. I'm encouraged that big media finds it necessary to insert reminders of their "truth" so widely. That tells me it's not really working.

Intersectionality cuts both ways. To hold up their trust in AGW, people of the left must believe that men can become women, and vice versa. Ultimately that's how they maintain belief in their own virtue. The whole house of psycho cards is always ready to fall, and PDT is removing jenga blocks as fast as he can. Maybe there will be a preference cascade on the issue of climate change soon.

I've commented elsewhere that one of the rarely mentioned positive aspects of the current Israel-Iran war is the near total absence of references to the UN in news coverage of the conflict. I wonder if our patience with globalist bureaucratic claptrap is, as it seems to be doing with the gender-diversity movement, waning. If the UN goes with a whimper rather than a bang, that works for me. Just so it goes.
