Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
Since we may see it invoked any day/week now, I thought a thread featuring a historical timeline of such occasions would be timely, as well as helpful for easy future reference if needed.
The Insurrection Act has been invoked 30 times since its enactment in 1807, by 15 presidents. Here's the listing thereof:
Jefferson: Apr 1808
Jackson: Feb 1831, Apr 1831, and Jan 1834
Lincoln: Apr 1861
Grant: Oct 1871, May 1873, Dec 1873, May 1874, and Sep 1874
Hayes: Jul 1877 and Oct 1878
Arthur: May 1882
Cleveland: Nov 1885, Feb 1886, and Jul 1894
Wilson: Apr 1914
Harding: Aug 1921
FDR: Jun 1943
Eisenhower: Sep 1957
JFK: Sep 1962, Jun 1963, and Sep 1963
LBJ: Mar 1965, Jul 1967, and Apr 1968
Reagan: Nov 1987
Bush41: Sep 1989 and May 1992

I look forward to delving in on each of these as time permits. For the moment I will settle for tipping my hat to President Grant for his five invocations in three years. I look forward to reading in the usual rags how Trump's invocation(s) represent an unprecedented disaster for "their" Democracy.
I will also note here in passing that the House vote on the NED bill yesterday, upheld the censorship regime and supporting NGO funding of the whole Globalist Marxist agenda. With all Democrats and 81 Republicans chiming in against the First Amendment. This is how they will force Trump and Elon to bend the knee and inscribe in stone the rule of our new Somalian overlords. See you all at Nick Sullivan's sentencing for committing acts of actual journalism.

Well, from recent statements of both Walz and the Minneapolis Mayor there appears to be no defusing of the situation. Comments from both seem totally disconnected from the seriousness of the situation or simply unhinged.
Perhaps going over the stipulations and power of the Insurrection Act might be a next preview topic.

Has it passed the Senate? Is Trump planning to sign or veto?

The actual matter appears to have been an amendment to codify the DOGE cuts of the National Endowment for Democracy into a larger bill funding the State Department and such. The House bill as passed is expected to be taken up by the Senate before the end of the month. I do not know whether Trump intends at this point to use his veto to defend DOGE cuts. I have noted that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles are "credited" with suppressing the DOGE process, it will be an uphill struggle for Trump to reignite it in time to impact the midterms.

Bessent was interviewed by Chris Rufo the other day, and that topic came up (11min45sec mark of the video embedded in the piece linked below):
"Rufo asked Bessent about DOGE. Bessent responded, "Uh, yeah, and Chris, to be clear, I was in 100% alignment with Elon on the waste, fraud, and abuse. It was just, you know, the Silicon Valley motto is move fast and break things. I said my personal motto and the Treasury motto is move deliberately and fix things. And that's what you're going to see in our investigations. You're not going to see headlines tomorrow. You're not going to see them next week, but in a month or quarter, once we get people in the bear trap, they're not getting out because we will have conclusive evidence to present. And I think that they will have to, uh, make plea deals that they will be willing to negotiate to turn in higher-ups to help us map out how this happened. And again, we're going to take this Minnesota map to the other 49 states."
