“Lawyer up!” That was advice from California Congressman Robert Garcia after the nationwide blue bloodbath on election night. So much for working together to solve the country’s problems. We’re gonna take you down, Trump! And all your henchmen!

My gut-level reaction to Garcia’s stark and vengeful pronouncement would be, “Load up!” As in, ammunition. Because this crazy, destructive, Marxist-leaning, Israel-hating, Islam-coddling, criminal- and illegal alien-loving party is going to be emboldened like never before.

Remember 2020 and the subsequent Biden years? Remember how they declared Trump voters and white people in general public enemy number one? Remember how they elevated sexual depravity? Remember those “pride” celebrations that were in your face and went on forever? The ascendancy of trans ideology? Or how they went after school board meeting protestors who objected to the depravity their children were exposed to? How about when they went after abortion protestors and Catholics? Remember that wide-open border and the illegal-rights movement? Surely you remember the college campuses taken over by terrorist-sympathizing mobs after October 7.

This crew of DSA-kowtowing Democrats is going to be emboldened like nobody’s business, so get ready, America. You’re likely to get what you voted for, good and hard.

Has the Republican Party been an effective party for conservatism? No, not much. But let me get this straight: Because of “affordability,” voters in freakin’ Texas put the freaky James Talarico into the U.S. Senate by 12 points? The guy who thinks transing children is great and God is nonbinary? Texans did that? And elected the first Democrat governor in 30 years?

Or because Michiganders don’t like Israel and Netanyahu, they elected blatant Islamist Abdul El Sayed? Or because they disagreed with the war to stop Iran from gaining nukes, Ohio, Kansas and South Carolina flipped (their wigs) to blue? Georgians dislike Trump’s personality so much they put failed Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms — who once said that anti-riot laws were “silly” and “asinine” — into the governor’s office?

And on and on, across the country? What does it all mean? How will it pan out? Is MAGA dead? Is conservatism over? Is there any coming back from this? Is it just a momentary paroxysm that will flip back the other way after Democrat excesses two years from now? All of this remains to be seen.

Look, I don’t know what the future holds, and I don’t want to be too much of a gloomy Gus, but I can’t see how this blue catastrophe doesn’t greatly increase the chances of a Democrat gaining the presidency in ‘28. President ____. Insert any name we’ve heard as a possible Democrat candidate into that blank and it should scare you to the core: Harris, Newsom . . . (choking) Ocasio-Cortez!

Meanwhile, across the pond, the unholy Marxist-Muslim coalition has been rioting and tearing up cities in countries all over Europe. They’re trying to finish off Western civilization and, given Europe’s delusional docility in the name of diversity, it strains the imagination to envision how they won’t prevail.

At this moment, things don’t look so great for America and the West. One thing, though, will certainly flourish in the days, weeks and months ahead: my prayer life.

“Is MAGA dead? Is conservatism over?”

Don’t conflate the two. Conservatism has receded to the shadows while the party is enthralled in Trumpism. Hopefully last night’s thumping will give conservatives the intestinal fortitude to deal with this misguided flirtation with populism .

MAGA and "conservatism" were never the same thing. If I read the post correctly, I take MAGA as referring to the Trump base, and "conservatism" as meaning the establishment GOP in the Administrative state and academia. For the most part, both of these factions hate each other.

MAGA as a political power may be dead; those who identify with it are likely so disgusted with the performance of the GOP establishment that MAGA-types may (may) withdraw from active participation in future elections. If so, the GOPe and it's academic fellow-travelers will rejoice.

With the return of the Democrats to formal and official control of the Administrative state, the GOPe and think-tank types will likely resume their place as the "loyal opposition," having no responsibility for results and no accountability for failures. My observation is that there is simply too much money to be skimmed-off, and siphoned from, the government trough to expect any individual who is snout-deep in it not to do so.

MAGA is alive and well. If they were smart , they would form a third party and tell the GOPe that they must earn their vote. Will it help? I doubt it. The GOPe has just shown us they are happy if Dems win. Look at the numbers in SC. Compare the votes for governor and Senator. It is clear Repubs crossed over and voted for that whackadoodle Andrews just to spite Trump and his supporters. MAGA exists because of GOPe failures.

Its smart to form a 3rd party? Given the historical, complete lack of success any 3rd parties have had, it feels that a 3rd party would have a steep uphill climb before it could effect any policies in any meaningful way.

If you redefine MAGA as right wing low tax/small government populism wing of a republican party, I think that would be a quicker road to some political achievements.

I've often wondered why 3rd parties seem to put all their efforts into presidential year campaigns, only to achieve 1 or 2% of the vote. Wouldn't it be easier particularly now with internet videos replacing tv advertising to have congressional campaigns in mid term elections? in a 50/50 split congress wouldn't electing 1 or 2 congressmen give your party tremendous power to achieve some of its goals?

I'm not a "Trumpist." I clearly said I preferred DeSantis and wrote a post about that very thing, which is here. And I've got more complaints about Trump than you could imagine. I just don't have a pathological hatred for him and most of his policies were infinitely better for the country than Kamala's would have been. But yes, I preferred DeSantis, who had the political skills and achievements without all the obvious liabilities of Trump. History says the Dem's would have picked up seats in the midterm, but had DeSantis been president, I don't think it would have been as bad. But I could be wrong.

I think one of the silver linings of this election. (if there are any) is that the DeSantis stock for 2028 shot up. I hope that he writes a book on Emergency or Crisis Management and happens to be out on a media blitz-book tour next October/November to have a quiet launch of his presidential campaign.
